What you'll be doing
Provide leadership for the regional property team in the marketing and underwriting of new and renewal business opportunities for retail broker partners, focusing on Property and related product lines, while contributing to special projects as assigned by senior management.
Lead the future development of the existing underwriting staff and the hiring of future underwriters in the southwest region.
Contribute to regional planning by developing and executing an annual desk-level underwriting plan.
Mentor and motivate team underwriters, working with underwriting assistants and other integral members of the team.
Support the training and onboarding of new hires to foster a knowledgeable team.
Analyze submission data including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports to determine degree of risk for each account.
Utilize advanced underwriting tools and methodologies to evaluate complex property exposures.
Adhere to underwriting guidelines, authorities and referral requirements as needed by regional management, product management and chief underwriting officers.
Collaborate with internal colleagues to assess current and prospective risks, including actuarial, claims, legal and risk engineering.
Provide proactive service with the Middle Office to ensure timely and accurate delivery of quotations, binders, policies and endorsements.
Cross-sell with other business units to maximize deployment of AXA XL's capital and broaden product offerings.
Monitor marketplace trends to stay informed about and ahead of emerging issues and opportunities within the Property sector.
Maintain compliance with all internal and external underwriting guidelines and legal requirements.
Assist in portfolio management regarding limit deployment, attachment point aggregation, pricing adequacy and policy terms and conditions.

Salary
The U.S. base salary range for this position is $155,500 to $233,000 USD. Actual pay is based on skills, experience and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity.

Summary:
Under limited direction and supervision, underwrites and markets assigned products by providing high levels of risk assessment and technical underwriting expertise to determine underwriting acceptability. May provide high level of financial analysis to determine credit quality.
A typical day will include the following:
Participates in the producer management process which may include, but is not limited to, premium collections.
Prepares underwriting submissions, making recommendations and/or decisions within established authority limits. Minimum authority is $1,000,000 (Surety).
Prepares and participates in marketing activities within the region to promote the development of new business.
Gathers and analyzing information, applies appropriate underwriting techniques necessary to make an accurate evaluation of acceptability of risk. May evaluate credit quality.
Prepares and participates in proposals to producers and/or accounts negotiating terms and conditions.
May ensure credit quality of accounts managed while maintaining and updating underwriting files.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree
At least three years of contract surety underwriting experience preferably with a carrier.
AFSB designation preferred.
The ability to manage multiple priorities, generate new business and be detail oriented.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overall responsibility for (i) evaluation and decision of borrower qualification for a mortgage loan to ensure creditworthiness, (ii) ensuring compliance with company, agency, and investors standards, and (iii) delivering a best-in-class customer experience.
Verify borrower loan application contains all necessary documentation, credit, and financial information; calculate qualifying ratios; identify borrower risk profile.
Perform thorough analysis of borrower's application such as: (i) income and expense data, (ii) asset documentation, (iii) credit reports, (iv) employment, (v) title and (vi) property valuations to affirm borrower stability, capacity to repay and qualification against company, agency and/or investor guidelines.
Make and issue independent, compliant underwriting decisions detailing clear conditions necessary to clear the loan for closing.
Partner with sales, customer relationship managers, and closers-funders to resolve problems, qualification issues, and clear conditions throughout the underwriting process.
Manage underwriting pipeline queues (i.e., initial submissions, conditions, change requests, final approval) to deliver timely decisions that meet company-published service standards.
Respond promptly to assist in resolving issues related to requests such as post-closing conditions, suspended loans, quality control audits, and investor audits/inquiries.
Maintain current knowledge of company, agency, and investor underwriting guidelines and policies.

Expert knowledge of Desktop Underwriter (DU) & Loan Prospector/Loan Product Advisor (LP/LPA).
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
Experience with Byte is a plus.
