Business relationships and a network of contacts must be established and an effective program of calls must be executed to meet an average of 10 external calls a month to ensure high visibility. Travel is required for marketing and training including out of state travel. New risks must be pre-qualified based on acceptability today and its future potential, this includes a thorough analysis of the broker submission, desired pricing, terms and conditions, financial condition, adequacy of reported values, and loss experience. The company's assets must be protected by adhering to company underwriting standards and procedures, this will include determining the amount subject, net capacity commitment, checking cross liability, management of catastrophe aggregate retentions, negotiating and purchasing reinsurance and establishing commissions in a manner most advantageous to the company. This position requires someone with a bachelor's degree or equivalent. 2-5 Years industry experience (broker/insurance company) as Underwriter for commercial property accounts of varying occupancies and sizes. Candidate must also have experience dealing with a variety of occupancies as well as current engineering and underwriting issues such as current property coverages and forms, and/or quickly learn and keep updated on industry state of the art. Additionally, this person will be proficient in and have excellent organizational, time management, problem solving, decision making, interpersonal and selling skills and a working knowledge of MS Office products. The final salary offer will vary based on individual education, skills, and experience. Responsibilities: • Lines of business underwritten include: primary property, general liability, umbrella and other lines on occasion. • Meet profitability, retention and written premium goals determined by the branch. • Make independent decisions within underwriting letter of authority and maintain proper file documentation. • Manage assigned agents efficiently including: o Regular production visits o Quarterly review of assigned brokers' profitability o Identification to Profit Center Manager of potential broker conflicts & successes o Focus on service and being responsive o Work jointly with other profit centers within the organization as needed to promote cross selling and enterprise awareness. • Assist in developing annual business goals for assigned agents/producers. Responsible for analyzing results and maintaining accountability of agency partners within the branch. • Has an in-depth knowledge of branch's products and services. • Can clearly articulate Seneca's value proposition and underwriting appetite. • Participate in training and initiatives to develop knowledge base. • May participate in projects. • Travel - up to 20%. • Other duties as assigned. Requirements: • Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of P&C underwriting experience. • Possesses strong communication and analytical skills to pursue new business, appoint new agents and manager overall relationships. • Proficient in software needed to succeed. • Excellent organizational and time management skills. • Possesses, or is pursuing, underwriting and industry designations applicable to area of specialization. • Will abide by branch policies and procedures, including authority levels, to comply with Seneca's risk control procedures. • In depth knowledge of commercial insurance products. • 3 days in either NYC, JC, or Uniondale office What C&F will bring to you At C&F you will BELONG We value inclusivity and diversity.
