Key Responsibilities:
Participate in Underwriting Training Course to solidify knowledge on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac guidelines
Reviews all items and conditions provided by borrowers and ensures they meet the required guidelines by utilizing internal and external (e.g., agency) policies and procedures [e.g., automated underwriting systems such as Desktop Underwriter (DU)]
Ensures that Company operating standards are met for underwriting and compliance by utilizing internal and external (e.g., agency) policies and procedures
Monitors property appraisal process to ensure the value of a property is accurately presented
Analyzes documentation such as title package, homeowner's insurance, payoffs and appraisals to make sound underwriting decisions based on this analysis by using an internal checklist
Analyzes loan applications to identify any risk issues and/or potential misrepresentation.
Reviews documentation and ensures documents are properly classified and organized
Makes quality underwriting decisions while maintaining Company turn-time expectations
Reviews and clears conditions on all loans to ensure a complete loan package prior to closing
Utilizes proprietary and online tools [e.g., Lexis/Nexis, Real Quest, Mortgage Electronic Registration System (MERS), AVM's, etc.] to help combat fraudulent activity and ensure quality loan decisions
Have the ability to rework loans to new terms, and identify additional conditions as needed.
Must be able to provide quick and accurate answers on multiple loan project guidelines
Communicates with broker partners with updates regarding their loan conditions
Engages specific strategies (e.g., determines appropriate individuals to resolve escalated customer issues, etc.) to resolve customer questions and concerns
Continually reviews underwriting environment, and suggests improvement opportunities to management
Acts as a recognized subject matter expert within the Company and partners with management on underwriting-related issues by providing analytical support, and counseling advice for their functional areas

Partner with respective Relationship Managers as well as Treasury Management Partners
Provide credit expertise using a consultative approach; assist in structuring loans applying proficient knowledge, understanding, and application of ONB guidelines/standards/policies, risk assessment and analysis; effectively communicate risks, questions, and options to RM seeking win-win solutions.
Deliver exceptional internal customer service and adopt new processes and new tools, as available.
Develop and enhance knowledge of assigned segmentation and portfolio by leveraging internal and external resources and expertise
Partner well with associates on revenue generating sales team, support teams and others in Credit to ensure a collaborative, team, and empowered environment
Monitor Portfolio
Accurately assign asset quality ratings (AQR)
Work with assigned Relationship Managers to monitor the credit portfolio to maintain strong asset quality; review trend analysis reports, address default situations, delinquencies, review maturing notes, receipt of financial information, review covenant default and Borrowing Base Certificate (BBC) reports and other reports as appropriate.
Prepare credit data in Special Assets Assessment and Action Summary (SAAAS) and Upgrade Hurdles, as necessary, working with assigned Relationship Managers
Commercial Underwriters may monitor overlines and Treasury Management/ACH risk reports or other trends, as appropriate

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Demonstrate at least 3-7 years progressive experience within Commercial Credit is required with each incremental level of responsibility.
Demonstrated ability to independently (with limited oversight), understand, analyze and interpret financial statements
Understands and takes appropriate action related to risks associated with lending to various types of industries.
Basic knowledge of loan structuring, borrowing causes and lending regulations; ability to comply and conform to ONB lending policies, guidelines and standards
