The company's assets must be protected by adhering to company underwriting standards and procedures, this will include determining the amount subject, net capacity commitment, checking cross liability, management of catastrophe aggregate retentions, negotiating and purchasing reinsurance and establishing commissions in a manner most advantageous to the company.
This position requires someone with a bachelor's degree or equivalent.
2-5 Years industry experience (broker/insurance company) as Underwriter for commercial property accounts of varying occupancies and sizes.
Candidate must also have experience dealing with a variety of occupancies as well as current engineering and underwriting issues such as current property coverages and forms, and/or quickly learn and keep updated on industry state of the art.
Additionally, this person will be proficient in and have excellent organizational, time management, problem solving, decision making, interpersonal and selling skills and a working knowledge of MS Office products.

This individual will play a key role in the evolution of our Multi-Family and Mixed-Use construction department. The candidate for this role should have a minimum of 3 years experience in the direct underwriting and credit analysis for construction lending. A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Urban Development, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or Risk Management is a plus. Evaluation of pro formas, construction budgets, and stabilization NOI (Net Operating Income) projections. Analysis of multi-layered risk based on audited financials, net worth, liquidity, portfolio performance, project feasibility cash-flow and debt coverage will be required. Our full suite of Business Purpose Loans also includes Residential Transitional Loans (RTL), DSCR (non-consumer), Bridge, Ground-Up Construction, and Portfolio products.
Responsibilities will include analysis of multi-layered risk based on audited financials, net worth, liquidity, portfolio performance, project feasibility, cash-flow, and debt coverage. Assessment of collateral using both cost and income approaches along with complex entity structures, and construction team evaluation (license, bonding, insurance compliance, plans, permits, construction contract - GMP or fixed-price preferred).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform complete risk assessments (borrower, market, collateral, and construction).
Prepare comprehensive credit memos summarizing all findings.
Recommend loan structure to mitigate identified risks.
Coordinate third-party reports (appraisal, environmental, cost review).
Underwrite Bridge, Renovation, Ground-Up Construction, and DSCR loans in accordance with company guidelines and investor overlays, as needed.
Analyze construction budgets, scopes of work, and project timelines to ensure feasibility of projects.

Salary ranges are available for all positions at this location, taking into account roles with a comparable level of responsibility and impact in the relevant labor market and these salary ranges are regularly reviewed and adjusted in accordance with prevailing market conditions. The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $71,600 to a maximum of $112,300. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee's contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.

This position is involved in the review and appraisal of applications for insurance placement . Uses knowledge and independent judgment to determine eligibility of risks when compared to guidelines of programs available. Interacts with Companies and Brokers via telephone, e-mail, regular mail and personal contact.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Reviews applications for insurance coverage, reports from loss control consultants and other information to determine if application is acceptable for the program(s) available.
Evaluate the experience of a risk against the class of business under review.
Evaluate the loss potential due to catastrophe, severity, and/or frequency.
May rate policies or check previously rated policies for proper rating.
Utilizes knowledge of automated systems to develop information for new or renewal policies.
Prepares quotations for agents and answers questions from agents, policyholder, or prospects.
Assists agents with comments or questions about applications and the likelihood of acceptance by the company.
Reviews requests for cancellation, endorsements, etc.
Reviews policies for renewal consideration.
Request additional documentation necessary for the processing of an application, endorsement or cancellation.
Conduct marketing visits to agents.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Must have Producer's License.
3 plus years of insurance experience.
Prior exposure to insurance underwriting type activities.
Basic familiarity with computers.
Good oral and written communications skills.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to pay attention to details.
Resourceful and controlled assertive behavior characteristics.
Must have demonstrated negotiation skills
Technical knowledge of insurance coverage forms and their application to exposure.
Knowledge of departmental regulations and policies.
Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines and standard accepted underwriting practices.
Strong interpersonal skills working with Staff and Company Underwriters
Experience in standard underwriting practices and procedures.
Associated classes or courses and/or industry license, or designation.
