Key Responsibilities:
Due Diligence Underwriting
Ability to analyze the underwriting of Jumbo and Non-Agency mortgage loans in a timely manner for completeness and compliance guidelines and approved Seller variances.
Use of manual underwriting requires strong attention to detail.
Manage loan conditions from credit, property, and compliance reviews with Sellers and external 3rd party service due diligence providers.
Evaluate and provide recommendations for underwriting waivers and eligibility exceptions.
Clearly communicate, in written and verbal form, compensating factors to justify exceptions.
Maintain strong knowledge of mortgage compliance rules agency underwriting guidelines and industry standards for appraisal requirements and regulatory compliance.
Participate in evaluating current loan review processes and provide feedback and recommendations to increase efficiency and risk management capabilities.
Consistently review third party services (valuation, fraud, compliance) to provide valuable input for loan decisions.
What you'll need to be successful:
5+ years of mortgage industry experience
5+ years of jumbo and Non-Agency underwriting with complex income analysis required
Expert underwriting knowledge and extensive experience with loan origination documentation
Technologically savvy, with the ability to work in varied systems.
Proficiency with automated underwriting engines, electronic document management and other systems

Insurance Services is the largest division within the agency and administers one of the premier workers' compensation organizations in the nation serving over 3.8 million employees working for 260,000 employers.
The Employer Services program within the Insurance Services Division is responsible for establishing and maintaining industrial insurance accounts for over 180,000+ employers and 2.5 million employees doing business throughout the state of Washington. The program provides a wide array of services to employers in the State Fund from helping new businesses get workers' compensation coverage to specialized underwriting.
The Industrial Insurance Underwriter 4 (IIU4) position is located within Employer Services Division of Insurance Services.
The job of an Industrial Insurance Underwriter is complex. We are seeking candidates who are passionate about providing exceptional customer service. As an Industrial Insurance Underwriter you will independently underwrite and manage state fund workers' compensation policies with a variety of complexities based on industry hazards. This position provides expert consultative and technical support to employers, third party representatives, and other divisions within the agency. You will interpret laws and regulations, provide policy and procedural clarification and correct problems.
This work supports the agency's mission and the state's economic wellbeing by protecting the safety of Washington workers and providing benefits to injured workers, and by insuring employers against uncertainty and liability.
Some of what you'll do:
* Coach, mentor and serve as a technical expert to a team of underwriters to ensure compliance of production, quality standards, and appropriate assignment of risk classifications. Performs quality assurance function including auditing and measuring theperformanceofpeersandlower-level underwriters,providingwrittenevaluationand reports of any findings.
* UnderwritesIndustrialInsuranceworkers'compensationpoliciesasgovernedby Title 51 of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code Chapters (WAC) 296-17 and 296-17A. Administers services to over 300 risk classifications representing multiple industries.
* Adjudicate industrial insurance claim coverage according to RCW 51.12. Determine employer/employee relationship, independent contractor status, and claim jurisdiction per RCWs.

Required:
* A Bachelor's degree with a field of focus involving tax liabilities, insurance benefits, risk classification, accounting or bookkeeping work, research, statistical or management analysis or related fields.
AND
* One year of experience as an Industrial Insurance Underwriter 3.
Note: Additional qualifying experience may substitute year for year, for the required education. This experience must include four years of direct customer service.
AND
* The ability to take action to learn and grow.
* The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.
Desired:
* Knowledge of: Basic principles of underwriting, insurance, auditing and accounting, in-depth knowledge of laws and regulation relating to industrial insurance, wage and employment practices, department operations, and ever-changing industries and policies.
