    We are seeking a Senior Underwriter with strong property and casualty expertise and proven sales management skills to join our GRS Public Entity Educational team. In this role, you will underwrite and manage a portfolio of moderately complex accounts across K-12 districts, charter schools, community colleges, public universities, and related entities-applying sound underwriting judgment to risk selection, pricing, terms, and policy wording to drive profitable growth. Key responsibilities: Assess and underwrite new business and renewal submissions for educational public entities, applying company guidelines to ensure appropriate pricing, terms and conditions, and risk selection. Manage a portfolio of accounts, monitoring performance drivers (loss ratios, exposures, retention) and recommending actions to improve profitability. Develop competitive submissions and placement strategies; prepare clear underwriting submissions and explain recommendations to brokers and internal stakeholders. Work closely with sales and brokers to identify opportunities for account retention and growth. Collaborate with actuarial and analytics teams to validate pricing, exposure analysis and loss trends; incorporate data into underwriting decisions. Coordinate with claims and risk control to identify loss drivers and implement risk mitigation strategies for clients. Review and negotiate policy wording, endorsements and contract terms to protect company interests and meet client needs. Maintain accurate underwriting documentation and adhere to governance, compliance and delegated authority limits. Mentor junior underwriters and contribute to team knowledge sharing and process improvements. Represent the company at client meetings and industry events as needed, 40% travel Qualifications Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Finance, Business, or related field preferred. 7-10 years of underwriting experience with a focus on public entities and/or educational institutions. Professional designations a plus (CPCU, ARM, AIC, or equivalent) or working toward designation. Strong technical underwriting skills: exposure assessment, pricing support, contract review and claims liaison. Proven ability to manage a book of business, prioritize workflow and meet production goals. Strategic agency planning and management experience Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present underwriting rationale to brokers and clients. Proficiency with Excel and underwriting systems; experience with data analytics tools a plus. Team player with strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to travel occasionally for client visits and industry meetings.
