Job Description

Qualifications
Deal Structuring: The Underwriter should understand the use of FHA with LIHTC equity, tax-exempt bond financing, and subordinate financing.
Economic Feasibility Analysis: This includes all components of net operating income (NOI), proposed cost estimates and anticipated lease-up, as applicable. Candidate should have a working knowledge of affordable housing programs including LIHTC, HOME, RAD, HAP contracts and vouchers, ability to research and understand other federal and state programs and apply appropriately to FHA MAP lending guidelines. In addition, the underwriter should be able to understand and apply guidelines related to tax abatement programs and ground leases typical in the affordable housing arena.
Appraisal Analysis and Review: The Underwriter will participate in the process of selecting and working with approved third-party appraisers. They will be responsible for review of the appraisal and related forms and for working with the appraiser to develop an accurate final appraisal.
PCNA/AEC Review/Environmental: The Underwriter will participate in the selection process and work with the third-party toward a final product that meets all HUD guidelines and accurately reflects the transaction.
Mortgage Credit Analysis: Utilizing HUD application documents and other Bank information, Underwriter must be able to analyze credit documentation, including REO schedules, to determine ownership structure and Active Principals, credit worthiness as well as capacity issues and other risks/mitigates to HUD and BANA. The Underwriter should understand the analysis required of LIHTC investors in affordable transactions as well as how to analyze non-profit financial statements and review non-profits.
Underwriter's Narrative, Site Visit, Concept Meeting and HUD Forms: Underwriter is responsible, in conjunction with other team members, for completing the Underwriter's Narrative and required HUD forms pursuant to HUD guidelines. Underwriter is also responsible for conducting the site inspection and if applicable, preparing a concept meeting package and attending concept meeting with Borrower.
Primary contact for HUD on a transaction basis: The Underwriter will serve as the primary HUD contact maintaining a positive relationship throughout.
Facilitate Closing, as needed: Work closely with third-party closer/servicer, attorneys and HUD to facilitate closing.

Position Summary
The primary responsibilities of the Credit Underwriter include underwriting new loan opportunities, writing analytical credit recommendations, running sensitivity models, and portfolio management as it pertains to the Renewable Energy segment. The Credit Underwriter will maintain power and utilities industry knowledge with an emphasis on renewable energy and help to maintain key relationships with customers and business partners. The Credit Underwriter will develop internal relationships to help conduct portfolio activities leading up to credit approval, as well as post-approval processing; and be a part of the team driving new product innovation. The Renewable Energy Credit Underwriter will report directly to the Senior Director - Credit Underwriting. The position holds a high level of visibility within the company and will have regular interaction with Senior Managing Director of Infrastructure Finance, Managing Director of Renewable Energy, Relationship Managers, Transaction Management, and Farmer Mac internal and external counsel. The position will also have a high degree of interaction with Farmer Mac credit committee, including the Chief Credit Officer, and Farmer Mac clients.

Key Responsibilities
* Primary contributor in the underwriting, portfolio management process, serving as a direct point of contact for client interaction during the underwriting and structuring phase.

Professional Experience/Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related.
* Five (5) or more years of credit underwriting experience or three (3) or more years of relevant renewable experience (e.g. development, finance, project management).
* General understanding or willingness to learn specific dynamics of power industries and project finance structures.
* Ability and desire to eventually handle renewable energy deal opportunities largely autonomously, including sensitizing financial models, calculating financial ratios, reviewing third-party reports and financing agreements, having awareness of power industry technologies and key participants, identifying key strengths and weaknesses, developing reasonable credit solutions, and providing credit recommendations.
* Excellent skills in credit analysis, quantitative and qualitative assessments, valuation, loan underwriting, and documentation review.

Position Overview:
Responsible for preparing financial analyses of current and prospective commercial loan customers, spreading financial statements, analyzing industry and economic conditions, completing cash flow analysis, completing full underwriting presentation and performing credit investigations to make appropriate recommendations as to the creditworthiness of borrowers and protect the Bank from loss. The incumbent provides the highest quality of service to every customer. The incumbent typically works on loans/portfolios of lower complexity as the incumbent's work requires significant oversight.
Primary Responsibilities:
Analyzes the creditworthiness of borrowers, identifies key credit issues and prepares full written analysis according to available information and established policies and procedures accurately and timely including completion of the entire underwriting document.
Utilizes software to complete financial spreads, risk ratings, covenant tests, cash flow and global cash flow accurately and timely to aid in the analysis of a borrower's creditworthiness according to established policies and procedures.
Research available data including internet sources and subscription-based utilities as available and summarizes information regarding current and projected status of certain industries and borrowers of Bank services along with general economic trends and conditions according to the availability of research data to aid in the quality of lending decisions.
Develops a personal program for maintaining an adequate level of knowledge in banking matters, compliance, credit analysis, policies and procedures and personal skills and demonstrates interpersonal behavior, attitude, judgment, communication and initiative with customers and employees to ensure an acceptable degree of performance.
Works with manager on group-wide initiatives for process, roles and responsibilities enhancements, and/or output improvements.
Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.
