What you can expect:
The Underwriting Supervisor will assist leadership with establishing strategic growth and profitability objectives for the team and help to lead the underwriting efforts. Ensure continued relationship management with wholesale and program partners by ensuring communication and service from underwriters. Assisting the Division Leader with the establishment of underwriting authority limits of the underwriting staff, vetting of new customer opportunities, and collaboration with all business partners that support the division. Assist in the selection of underwriting staff. Train, develop, and coach ensuring regular communication and feedback.
What you will do:
- Take responsibility for underwriting a book of business, ensuring profitable growth.
- Assist with growth objectives, pricing objectives and profit improvement.
- Supervise the risk selection and underwriting process, reporting, and business development for the division.
- Take accountability for assisting with the auditing of the underwriters as well as the program partners so that any issues can be caught early and corrected.
- Assist leadership in collaborating with the company's Underwriting, Actuarial, Product, Systems, Claims, Finance, and Legal function for projects as needed.
- Supervise underwriting assistant(s); and maintain key contacts with customers
- Work with internal teams to grow the book of business while maintaining product health
- Work with leadership to monitor and oversee existing portfolio of business to develop action plans as needed.
What we look for:
- A minimum of 7 to 10 years' experience in underwriting with experience in the underwriting and marketing of General Liability and Property product lines; experience with Excess and Surplus risks preferred. Ability to lead the underwriting, pricing, and negotiation of small and medium account business in accordance with established guidelines, procedures and strategies.
- High energy, with a desire to be a team player capable of interacting with a variety of individuals internally and externally. Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of internal support departments.
- Developed technical knowledge of underwriting, product design, rating and pricing, with a proven record of profitable underwriting in a multi-line environment.
- Ability to maintain productive relationships with a wide variety of program administrators through periodic visitation, consistent communication of appetite, and ensuring excellent customer service and response time.
- Ability to analyze individual risks and provide underwriting solutions, through creativity and vision to design coverage that can appropriately respond to a specific line of business, class or customer need.
- Develop direct reports through continuous coaching of performance and setting goals and objectives.
- A positive attitude, with a sense of urgency directed toward the design of creative solutions, a customer centric approach, and motivating team members.
