1842

Union County established 1842

1844

Incorporated in 1844 as the County Seat of Union County

1856

On March 5, 1856, the Commissioners ordered the old jail be sold, with the view of purchasing a lot in another location, on which to build a new jail.

1864

Union County was officially established on October 14, 1864 breaking it away from Baker County.

1865

In 1865 an election was held and La Grande was reaffirmed as the county seat.

1872

The lot was purchased for $2,500.00 from H. Campbell with bonds issued on August 10, 1872.

In 1872 it was again brought to the voters, this time with the twist that all cities in the county had to be on the ballot and to win a city must have the majority of the votes.

1885

He went on to become the Registrar in the United States Land Office in La Grande in 1885.

1890

Jerome T. Bolles was the Postmaster of Cornucopia for 4 years before being elected Sheriff in 1890.

1915

According to Curry's 1915 Union County History, this was lots 55 and half of 66 in the original town plat. $20,000.00 in bonds were issued for construction.
