Primary function:
The PatientCareTechnician (PCT)(CNA) supports activities of daily living under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. The PCT will demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to deliver care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Primary job duties include, but not limited to, performing and accurately recording vital signs, Accu-checks, bathing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and mobilizing patients. PCT's are an essential part of the nursing care team with an expectation to support the organizations patient safety goals and initiatives.
Principal duties and responsibilities:
Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to deliver care appropriate to patients in various stages of development.
Performs assigned duties for the comfort and well-being of patients.
Responds to patient crisis situation and initiates interventions within the scope of responsibilities and notifies RN.
Performs successful finger sticks on patients, following all standard laboratory safety policies.
Performs defined procedures on point of care instrumentation.
Provides 1:1 observation for 1-2 patient(s) experiencing a psychiatric crisis, suicidal/homicidal ideation under the order of a physician in Power chart.
Provides 1:1 observation for 1-2 patient(s) at risk for safety based on nursing assessment and order in Power chart.
Responds with promptness, empathy and interest to needs of patients.
Communicates to patients, employees, and physicians using courteous verbal and written communication skills.
Completes required in-service education.
Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
Performs other related duties as required.
Education and experience requirements:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Previous patientcare experience including taking vital signs. Nursing student who has successfully completed clinical hours or completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program.
Acute Care Preferred
American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute/Military Training Network/National Safety Council -Current BLS Certification is required.

Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Mental Health Technician Trainee at the Murray Developmental Center located in Centralia, Illinois. The incumbent will, for a period of time from six (6) and not to exceed twelve (12) months, receive instruction and training in providing care for individuals with developmental disabilities. Conducts activities and programs and escorting of individuals to participate in the receipt of community services. Attends formal classes for instruction in the basic elements of nursing practices and techniques and to gain an elementary understanding of the causes, nature, treatment and habilitation of mental illness or developmental disabilities.
Essential Functions
For a period from six (6) and not to exceed twelve (12) months, receives instruction and training in caring for individuals with mental illness or developmental disabilities.
Observes the technical staff in the general performance of technical duties carried out within a unit/cottage related to resident's general care and management in compliance of resident's rehabitation plan.
Receives training in techniques of observation of residents, reports on their behavior and interacts with them in a positive manner.
Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly unit by performing general housekeeping tasks, such as spot mopping, cleaning spills, wiping tables and making of beds and lifting up 50 pounds.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
