Benefits and pay is descent
Will not hire more help for track maintenance, using more contractors , and poor management
Retirement
The union employees are extremely proficient at their jobs. There is a high amount of professionalism and training.
The management is very poor. The senior management lacks a moral compass.
The health insurance and pension are very good.
The retirement
Not sure I’ll make it to the retirement. Being treated badly gets very old very fast. Plan to never have a holiday off or anything that resembles a weekend job. Plan to be laid off in a mass layoff.
Hearing loss.
the challenge
There is no job security with Union Pacific
the pay is very good
Pay
How it's all based on seniority and not the individual work ethic or knowledge
Proud to work for Union Pacific. It is one of those icon American companies. It has traditionally been a great place to work with excellent pay, benefits and job security.
Things have drastically changed at Union Pacific. The organization has gone through several RIFs in its workforce in the past 5 years resulting in chaos, increased work load and stress among the employees who remain.
The pay and benefits.
Great pay. Free gym. Knowing you are working for a company that is important to America.
The corporate culture. Always cutting managers. Major cuts 5 times in the last seven years.
Pay.
The work is fun and the job is outside.
The people there are so negative. Managers try to hold it together, but everyone is so negative. There are a lot of cuts and you have to be ready when they come, but if you know that going in you can make some good money.
Gym Membership, Health Benefits.
Omaha headquarters offers flexible work schedules
Deep cuts and lots of chaos
The pay and benefits. Hard to find anything else that can compare in this town.
Treated like you're in prison is the best way to describe it. I have been with UP for 15 years and still can not get anything close to summer for vacation. Work with your eyes closed because it don't matter what you say they will run it anyways.
Pay
Good pay and comparable benefits to other companies.
In the last 5 years the value of the employee has declined drastically and the Glassdoor rating shows it. They don't care about work life balance, mental health, stress levels, etc. It's very heavy with the good ole boy network with zero compassion or value for the people doing the work.
