    United Hospital District is looking for a .9 (72 hrs/pp) Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)/Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT). This position is for a generalist who will be responsible for sample collection and processing and performing various tests on patient samples in the following areas of the lab: Hematology, Chemistry, Coagulation, Microbiology, and Blood bank. The MLS/MT/MLT will follow standard operating procedures to ensure laboratory safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met. They will need to be able to collaborate with other departments and serve as a laboratory resource to other professionals/departments. Essential Functions: Accurately performs and reports waived, moderate and high-complexity tests. Maintains in-depth knowledge of all laboratory procedures performed. Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on Laboratory analyzers and instruments. Interprets results for accuracy, completion, and correlation with physiological condition; correct any problems or refer to manager or Lab Director. Recognizes and reports abnormal results, report critical values to appropriate nurse or provider within specified time frame, refer implausible results to manager or Lab Director. Maintains a working knowledge of reagent stability and storage. Performs venipuncture, fingerstick, or heelstick on patients by choosing appropriate site and device, with the ability to assess and react effectively to the unique needs of each patient. Performs EKG's on patients. Evaluates the acceptability of specimens within appropriate guidelines and ensure that unacceptable specimens are rejected and recollected within appropriate time frames. Sets work priorities to accommodate stat, critical, and routine testing, with the ability to perform Lab testing on several patients simultaneously. Performs QC and calibrations as assigned and take appropriate remedial action on waived, moderate, and high-complexity Lab tests, notifying the manager of any discrepancies. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent, plus graduation from an accredited school with a bachelor's degree in Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent OR Graduation from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician school. Certification by ASCP or equivalent. Schedule: This is a .9 position, 8 hour shifts, 72 hours per pay period. Rotating day shift hours, every 4th weekend/holiday. Essential Functions: Accurately performs and reports waived, moderate and high-complexity tests. Maintains in-depth knowledge of all laboratory procedures performed. Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on Laboratory analyzers and instruments. Interprets results for accuracy, completion, and correlation with physiological condition; correct any problems or refer to manager or Lab Director. Recognizes and reports abnormal results, report critical values to appropriate nurse or provider within specified time frame, refer implausible results to manager or Lab Director. Maintains a working knowledge of reagent stability and storage. Performs venipuncture, fingerstick, or heelstick on patients by choosing appropriate site and device, with the ability to assess and react effectively to the unique needs of each patient.
