Established in 1962, our company has built a solid reputation for offering products that are simple and straight forward.
The fit between Chubb and United Life was a good one and the merger was consummated in the summer of 1971.
Furman Selz was founded in the United States in 1973 as a research-driven investment boutique.
The “Citi” in CitiStreet originated as H.C. Copeland and Associates in 1976.
John Swope had helped steer United Life to its pinnacle of success, and in 1977 he was rewarded by being named President of Chubb Insurance Company.
Life of Georgia insurance company was acquired by Nationale-Nederlanden in 1979, resulting in a considerable increase in activities in the United States.
A 96,000 square foot, 4-story building housed the growing company for only a few years and another 114,000 square foot building went up in 1985, all of this on a campus of 178 acres.
Swope was forced out as president on December 31, 1994 and his place was taken by mergers and acquisitions specialist Theresa Stone, who engineered the sale of the life insurance company to North Carolina-based Jefferson-Pilot Corporation.
These companies were unified under the ReliaStar brand in 1995.
The company continued to grow through acquisitions, including Pilgrim Funds, a mutual funds business acquired in 1999.
The two businesses were merged to become CitiStreet in April 2000.
That insurance arm, which became United Mutual Life Insurance Company, later merged with American Central Life Insurance Company to form AUL. In 2000, AUL was the founding member of American United Mutual Insurance Holding Company and its stock holding company, OneAmerica Financial Partners, Inc.
In 2004, Southland Life of ING Group was added to Life of Denver.
