United Pentecostal Church International, Inc. history

It traces its organizational roots to 1916, when a large group of Pentecostal ministers began to unite around the teaching of the oneness of God and water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ.

Two months later, several Oneness ministers met in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and on January 2, 1917, formed a Oneness Pentecostal organization called the General Assembly of the Apostolic Assemblies.

In 1925, three new Oneness churches were formed: the Apostolic Churches of Jesus Christ, the Pentecostal Ministerial Alliance, and Emmanuel’s Church in Jesus Christ.

Nevertheless, a union between the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ and the PAW was consummated in November 1931.

In 1932, the Pentecostal Ministerial Alliance changed its name to the Pentecostal Church, Incorporated to reflect its organizational structure.

In 1936, Pentecostal Church, Incorporated ministers voted to work toward an amalgamation with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Jesus Christ.

Among them two of the major bodies known as The Pentecostal Assemblies of Jesus Christ, Inc., and the Pentecostal Church, Inc., became so closely associated in doctrine and fellowship that in 1944 steps were taken to unite the two bodies into one organization known as the United Pentecostal Church."

On July 13, 1966, this committee recommended to the Missouri District that a college be started and the Missouri District passed a resolution creating the college.

In January of 1967, bylaws and guidelines for the school were chosen and the name “Gateway College of Evangelism” was accepted by the Missouri District.

Gateway College of Evangelism was formally opened on September 13, 1968.

On September 8, 1969, after having raised money for the college and having made final provision for the housing of the students, Harry Branding suffered a fatal heart attack while driving home from the college.

In 1971, a new campus was purchased at 700 Howdershell Road in Florissant.
