Job Description
The Communications Manager is part of the Office of Public Affairs and also serves as the Liaison for Diocesan Communications. This position is is responsible for establishing and maintaining the relationship with diocesan communications offices and serves as the primary point of contact for diocesan communicators. The Communications Manager also serves within the Public Affairs office as part of the media relations team. The position demonstrates willingness and ability to understand, respect and contribute to the USCCB mission and to fulfill job duties in accordance with its Catholic identity.
Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Public Affairs, the Communications Manager is a practicing Catholic, registered in a Catholic parish or regularly attending a Catholic parish or faith community, who embraces, upholds and promotes the authentic teaching of the Catholic Church in every aspect of his/her work.
Liaison for Diocesan Communications:
While each bishop continues to maintain his own communications operation in his diocese, this liaison will aid the diocesan communicators by building and maintaining a pro-active relationship to support their work. The liaison must have a pulse on the activities of USCCB offices, and then also serve as the main point of contact for the diocesan communicators in the ongoing effort to ensure that information, materials, and resources produced by the Conference may reach the dioceses to use at the local bishop's discretion. He/she must understand the work of the various USCCB offices and Conference initiatives to serve as a resource to the diocesan communicators. The liaison is a key player along with the Executive Director of Public Affairs in providing ongoing support, consultation, and resources regarding communication strategies for bishops and USCCB offices and programs.
· This position will require the ability to engage with nearly 200 diocesan communications offices regularly (sometimes as a collective group, and sometimes individually), and is responsible for maintaining an updated contact list of the diocesan communicators to allow ongoing engagement and collaboration.
· Work with USCCB offices in anticipation of upcoming initiatives, events, and commemorations where information and resources from USCCB offices may be disseminated to the dioceses.
· Schedule, plan, and host quarterly Zoom meetings for diocesan communications directors and state Catholic conference communicators. Collaborate internally to determine topics of quarterly calls and line up guest speakers.
· Assist USCCB offices with information on diocesan level initiatives and activities that could be newsworthy or serve as best-practices examples.
Working with Digital Engagement Specialist, identify emerging issues and trends on social media coverage of Catholic Church and related issues to foresee that might require a response from the USCCB or an alert to diocesan communicators.
Public Affairs and Media Relations:
This position includes support for the Executive Director of Public Affairs in a media relations role. While extensive media relations experience is not necessary, the position requires someone who has a willingness to learn how the USCCB engages with media and assist with the maintenance of relationships with Catholic and secular media.
The USCCB issues a steady stream of statements and press releases throughout the year. Proofing the materials that are often the result of collaborative editing efforts of multiple offices, and then formatting the statements for the web and for archive files, and then subsequently disseminating them to media lists, diocesan communicators, USCCB staff will fall to the manager.
Monitor the Catholic Media Association's Google Group for diocesan communications directors to track trending issues or concerns.
Provide logistical support for media operations at bishops' meetings, events, and press opportunities.
Willingness and ability to work collaboratively within the public affairs team and provide regular updates to the team and to the Executive Director.
Ability to pivot quickly to adjust priorities to address rapidly developing situations and work under the pressure of a deadline.
Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail for proofing content on tight deadlines.
Education Level: Bachelor's degree in communications or related field.

The salary range for this position is $79,867 to $100,245. Applicants can expect the starting salary to be at the beginning of the range.

Job Description
The Chief Financial Officer is a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church who is responsible for leading and overseeing the finance-related activities of the organization. This role serves as lead staff to the Committee on Budget and Finance and provides insight and analysis to the General Secretary and Executive Team. The CFO guides and participates in budgeting, financial reporting, audits, internal control systems, accounting practices, stewardship of investments, and financial analysis to assure fiscal responsibility and integrity.
1. Supervises the gathering, recording, summarizing and reporting of all transactions in support of interim and audited year end financial statements, and the comparison of actual to budgeted and planned outcomes.

10. With the General Secretariat, works with investment management consultants, managers, advisors and custodians for performance and results measurement, adherence to investment guidelines, portfolio composition, and related accounting for position & results.
11. Represents management to the independent auditors and advises management on issues related to the audited annual financial statements, including adoption of reporting standards and preparation of footnote disclosures.
12. Oversee and advise in the implementation, development, and maintenance of finance and accounting systems.
13. Oversees the Conference's relationship with its travel agency and develops, suggests and monitors the related policies and procedures.
14. Works with other staff as needed to address particular projects, such as royalty audits, risk management, special events and functions, investigations, etc.

Primary Responsibilities

Position Requirements
A minimum of five years of experience in a political campaign and/or issue-advocacy setting. Presidential, senatorial, and/or congressional campaign experience is highly desirable, with experience preferred in western states.
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, international relations or another related field preferred.
Demonstrated ability to proactively engage prominent leaders in the political, business, faith-based, military, academic and civic communities in the western states. Experience planning meetings and large events, writing, organizing and training local influencers.

Duties and Responsibilities
Plans and carries out periodic inspections at rail hazardous materials shipper/consignee locations including rail intermodal terminals/van yards, freight forwarders, import/export agents and tank car manufacturing and repair facilities. Responsible for assessing railroad compliance with the carrier's track inspection process to support compliance with federal regulations within their assigned territory, and the improvement and advancement of railroad safety in areas related to track construction, track maintenance, repair activities, and employee safety. Plans and carries out periodic inspections of all signal and train control and highway-rail grade crossing warning systems in a territory to ensure that they are properly installed, operated, tested, and maintained by the railroads.
Examines carriers operating rules, employee qualification guidelines and carrier employee training programs to determine compliance with existing Federal regulations and standards. Additionally, incumbent ensures the technical aspects of the DNA Analysis program(s) are in compliance with ISO 17025 accreditation standards and the Quality Assurance Standards (QAS) for Forensic DNA Testing Laboratories established by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)and are responsible for ensuring seamless unit operations including all aspects of forensic biology casework from case intake through lab processing and communication with customers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Performs laboratory analyses of physical evidence in one or more of the specialty disciples of the FSL, regularly demonstrates proficiency in assigned forensic specialty; participates in and completes externally administrated proficiency tests; demonstrates competency and on-going proficiency in laboratory processing, interpretation, comparisons, statistical analysis and technical review as authorized by the technical leader; ensures methodologies and procedures used are compliant with established standards, and is responsible for quality assurance and accreditation compliance activities. Evaluates existing DNA methods and proposes new analytical procedures for improved operations; and ensures that all associated quality standards pertaining to ISO 17025 and FBI QAS based accreditation status are being performed and met.
Prepares written scientific examination reports and affidavits to correlate with laboratory results; inspects equipment and tools that are utilized for testing and to determine if they are compliant with prescribed operating and safety standards, regulations and guidelines including manufacturer's specifications on computerized scientific equipment; interprets graphs, charts, and mathematical formulas. Position Summary
Free Speech Forum head counselors are experienced residential leaders and mentors who support, supervise, and guide the Forum's counselor team while ensuring the overall success of the program. They serve as the bridge between counselors and camp leadership, providing hands-on management, monitoring student and staff needs, and coordinating logistics to maintain a safe, positive, and mission-driven environment.
Lead counselors ensure smooth day-to-day operations, maintain participant safety and engagement, support counselor development, and foster a community aligned with FIRE's mission. They are also responsible for assisting with emergency response, overnight supervision rotations, and residence hall management.
This is an intensive, fully residential role requiring full-time commitment from Saturday, June 21 through Saturday, June 27, 2026, including evenings and weekends. Lead counselors will live on campus at American University with the participants and counselor team.
The lead counselor reports to the vice president of Student Development and works closely with attendees, FIRE staff, and counselor team. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Leadership & Supervision
Serving as a leader and point of contact for a team of 25 counselors.
Providing guidance, mentorship, and logistical support to counselors throughout the program.
Coordinating and leading daily counselor meetings to review schedules, responsibilities, and student updates.
Rotating overnight duty shifts, conducting regular rounds through the residence hall, and responding to any issues or emergencies.
Working as an intermediary between the counselor team and camp leadership, ensuring effective communication and consistent application of policies.
Giving feedback and support to counselors to maintain a positive and professional team dynamic.
Maintaining regular communication with the vice president of Student Development, lead counselors, FIRE staff, and health staff to ensure student safety, manage risk, and address emergency situations.
Program Operations

Qualifications
Lead counselors must be at least 18 years old. A successful candidate will have a good work ethic and have the ability to manage communications with various different audiences. Most importantly, the candidate must demonstrate a knowledge and passion for FIRE's mission and an ability to articulate that mission in a way that will make others enthusiastic about our cause.

Position Overview
The Policy & Research Associate is a key member of Issue Ones Policy Team, providing cross-team support across our four main issue areas: technology reform, election protection, money in politics, and constitutional defense, with a particular focus on money in politics and technology reform. This role contributes to policy development, research, analysis, writing, project management, and administrative support that helps shape Issue Ones reform agenda and equips the organization with actionable, evidence-based insights.
The ideal candidate is a mission-driven, proactive, organized, detail-oriented professional with excellent research, analysis, and writing skills, a demonstrated interest in democracy issues, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced advocacy environment. They will carry out multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality work. Key Responsibilities
Policy Development, Research, and Analysis (30%)
Track and analyze federal and state legislation, regulatory actions, court rulings, and political developments across Issue Ones core issue areas, with a particular emphasis on technology reform and money in politics.
Conduct background research to support written products, policy development, advocacy strategies, and campaign planning.
Identify emerging trends, gaps, and opportunities in the policy landscape.
Provide analysis to help shape Issue Ones positions, recommendations, and long-term reform priorities.
Provide timely, objective guidance to colleagues on policy details, legislative history, or issue-area developments.
Written Products (30%)
Regularly propose ideas for policy and research-related written products.
Draft and contribute to writing projects and products related to Issue Ones core issue areas, including policy memos, reports, fact sheets, briefers, talking points, articles, and other materials for policymakers, partners, media, and the public.
Regularly review news articles, academic reports, government filings, and other materials, and synthesize complex information into clear, accessible, actionable formats for internal and external stakeholders.
Assist with the fact-checking of Issue One materials.
Collaborate with the Communications team to create effective messages, including for social media content.
Data Management and Analysis (15%)
Create, maintain, and clean datasets and databases in support of research and policy objectives.
Conduct qualitative and basic quantitative research to inform Issue Ones policy, advocacy, and public education efforts.
Help maintain Issue Ones internal knowledge base, trackers, and shared research resources.
Project & Cross-Team Support (25%)
Support planning and execution of in-person and online policy events, roundtables, and briefings.
Contribute to the development of Issue Ones strategic priorities, long-term goals, and annual policy objectives.
Support the onboarding and occasional project-specific supervision of interns.
Provide administrative and project management support as needed, including occasional logistics and scheduling.
Attend events on behalf of Issue One, including taking notes and reporting back to other Issue One staff on key takeaways.

Job-Related Experience
Minimum 13 years of experience in policy research, advocacy, legislative tracking, political science, government, journalism, or a related field.

Experience drafting policy and/or research products.
Experience working with coalitions, policymakers, or advocacy networks is a plus.
