    General Job Information This position is located in the Office of Unemployment Compensation, Department of Employment Services (DOES) and will support the Non-Separations Unit. The position provides for the collection and analysis of necessary data to assess the effectiveness of key program areas within the Unemployment Compensation Program and to recommend corrective action for the programs. Duties and Responsibilities Reviews, examines, investigates, develops, and adjudicates the full range of unemployment claims to verify the work performed by other claims examiners, to assess the errors found in writing and recommend ways to avoid such errors. Refers cases as authorized to the appropriate office for final adjudication and/or judicial review. Interviews and assists individuals regarding erroneous claims against the District of Columbia and other jurisdictions; makes a determination concerning the claimant's eligibility and entitlement to the benefits or disqualifications, when necessary. Determines that all statutory requirements, (i.e. attachment to the labor market, able and available to work, attending school, receiving pension, retirement and/or annuity, etc.) relating to eligibility and entitlement for benefits have been met. Determines the highest benefits rate to which the claimant is entitled by applying the various alternatives provided in the basic law and subsequent amendments of the District of Columbia Unemployment Compensation Act. Responds to general information inquiries on Unemployment Insurance utilizing thorough and complete knowledge of technical provisions pertaining to eligibility, disqualifications and benefit payments under the District of Columbia Unemployment Compensation Act. Qualifications and Education Applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the CS-07 grade level, or its non-District equivalent obtained in either the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience for this position include: assisting with the review, examination, investigation, development, and adjudication of unemployment claims; examining claims for factual sufficiency and legal correctness; determining wage earning capacity. Licensures, Certifications and other requirements None Work Conditions/Environment The work is performed in a normal office setting. Other Significant Facts Tour of Duty: Monday-Friday 8:30 am- 5:00 pm or Varies Promotion Potential: No known promotion potential Duration of Appointment: Career Service - Term, NTE 13 Months Pay Plan, Series and Grade: CS-991-09 Salary: $62,158- $80,032; Based on qualifications and funding Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is covered by AFGE Local 1000 Collective Bargaining Unit. Position Designation: This position has been designated as Security sensitive therefore the incumbent of this position will be subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC Personnel Regulations, Suitability and as such, incumbents of this position shall be subject to criminal background checks, background investigations, and mandatory drug and alcohol testing, as applicable. Residency Preference: Applicants claiming "Residency Preference" will be required to maintain residency in the District of Columbia for a minimum of seven (7) years from the date of employment.
