Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. or flexibility to discuss (4) 10 hour weekday shift Classification Purpose: The primary purpose of the Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) Supervisor classification is to oversee, supervise, and assist with the overall operations of the veterinary medical team consisting of technicians and assistant(s) to ensure and improve the health and well-being of animals in the shelter; perform all duties of a registered veterinary technician.
Job Duties: Direct, supervise, and provide leadership to veterinary technicians and assigned staff. Assist in development and implementation of operational policies and procedures. Train staff, delegate work duties to assigned employees, compose employee performance evaluations, approve/disapprove employee time records and requests. Assess and evaluate animals and participate in performing clinical processes, including humane euthanasia per agency's established procedures. Answer inquiries regarding medical or behavioral problems. Schedule appointments for the animals and prepare clinic processing room for daily activities. Retrieve, document and update all animal electronic records and medical histories.
Per ORC 4741.01 (G), oversee and monitor the assignments of veterinary technicians and assistant(s). Report discrepancies, violations and general issues and/or violations to the assistant director. Ability to prepare surgery area for animals and verify appropriate information. Prepare and administer medications and animals for surgical procedures. Monitor the vital signs of animals and maintain surgical drug logs. Prepare post-operative surgical instructions and medications and perform follow-ups calls. Responsible for tracking, ordering, and maintaining drugs and medical supplies. Inventory management also required. Review and maintain controlled drug logs. Shall participate in adoption promotional events, coordinate vaccine clinics with contracted medical staff and/or shelter team and provide the public with animal health information and educational resources, as needed. Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Major Worker Characteristics: Knowledge of work force planning; safety practices; employee training and development; supervision; office practices and procedures; counseling; interviewing. Skills in laboratory equipment operation. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; interpret extensive variety of technical material in books, journals and manuals; maintain accurate records; handle sensitive inquiries.
Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment: Any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience including but not limited to: Associates degree in Veterinarian Technology with three (3) years of veterinary medical experience; two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Additional Requirements: Registration as a Veterinary Technician is required.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Ability to assign, review, plan, and coordinate the schedules of assigned employees, to provide instruction to assigned employees, to maintain department standards, to recommend the discipline or discharge of assigned employees, to act on employee problems, and to recommend the transfer or promotion of employees. Provide assigned employees with continuing education opportunities. Track and maintain records of RVT certifications. Participate in full scope of hiring process.
Unusual Working Conditions: May be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) to perform duties. Work setting can be noisy and smell unpleasant at times. Exposure to bites, scratches and animal wastes. Possible exposure to zoonotic diseases. This position requires you to work some evenings, weekends, on call and holiday shifts.

The Montgomery County Animal Resource Center is a 24,000-square-foot open admission companion animal shelter. As a member of the Clinic Team in the Animal Resource Center, the Animal Resources Clinic Veterinarian will support all medical-related programs, including the County's Animal Spay/Neuter Clinic and In-House Medical Care; responsible for upholding standards of care and protocols; training skilled staff (Veterinarians, Registered Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, shelter staff, and behavior staff); collaborating on nursing care; providing high level customer service to animal care partners and members of the public; and to perform related work as required.

Summary of Job Duties
Under the direction of the Director of Veterinary Services, responsible to assist with the administrative authority and autonomy associated with the day to day management of the mobile clinic, as well as supporting the care and control of the Animal Resource Center veterinary clinic exercising the ability to make independent decisions using personal judgment and expertise regarding the enrichment and physical well-being of all animals entering the Animal Resource Center to ensure that all aspects of clinic operations are in compliance with professional standards set by the Ohio Department of Agriculture, the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy, the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association, the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board, and the Drug Enforcement Agency.
Responsible for employee supervision, support of medical management standards of care and expectations, contract creation and management, policy formulation, promulgation, and review, creating and sustaining best practices standard operating procedures; supporting the development and maintenance of clinic protocols, directives, and initiatives, and detailed and thorough reporting, data input and analysis as required into the Animal Resource Center central database.
Mobile Unit Support: Performs spay and neuter pre-surgical examinations, surgery, and post-surgical examinations on dogs including pediatric sterilizations, performs clinical veterinary care, vaccinations, and physical examinations.
In-House Support: Performs treatment, surgery, and follow-up for housed animals where needed or required, and conducts and/or oversees behavioral treatment plans for all animals when needed. Assists in performingforensic duties encompassing post-mortem examinations of animals including the performance of necropsies, hematology, parasitology, microbiology and clinical pathology laboratory tests and procedures, prepares and maintains a variety of records and operational reports concerning consultations and diagnostic decisions ensuring compliance with applicable Federal, State and local regulations. Evaluates, recommends and supports implementation of disease control, sanitation and herd health management practices, provides examinations for cruelty and necessary documentation, provides consultation and instruction to veterinary technicians, assistants, and Resource Center staff in animal care, pre- and post-procedural care, new procedures, aseptic surgery, and related topics, supports/monitors animal care protocols for the Animal Resource Center, may performs off-hour consultations with staff regarding treatment and management of injuries, abused, neglected and diseased animals.
Clinic equipment includes digital x-ray, hand-held ultrasound, in-house bloodwork capability, dental machine, electrocautery, and orthopedic saw.
Assists Director of Veterinary Services to ensure that a comprehensive training curriculum is managed and executed for all Animal Resource Center staff, volunteers, interns, students etc. regarding recognition of animal medical abnormalities, basic diagnostics techniques, expectations for treatment outcomes, proper adherence to follow-up procedures, and all elements of quality control associated with animal medical well-being. Assists with animal cruelty investigations, may participate in the recruitment of volunteers and employees, as appropriate to the area of operation. Manages the Animal Resource Center and Mobile Unit for disease and sanitary conditions; inspects, evaluates, and makes recommendations on animals being admitted to the Animal Resource Center, assists in the establishment and implementation of effective quality control systems; revises techniques and procedures as required to obtain desired quality control standards. As needed, prepares reports for and testifies in the judicial system on behalf of the county and performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. May coordinate with law enforcement or other government agencies on animal related environmental health concerns as needed.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
License to practice veterinary medicine issued by Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board.

Must maintain a current, valid United States driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Training and Development:
Annual renewal of license to practice veterinary medicine issued by Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board. Must obtain ASP Baton Certification within one (1) year of hire date. Must maintain certificate and licensure.
