We're a non-partisan technology startup at The White House founded by President Obama in 2014. Our mission is to deliver better government services and improve the lives of all Americans. We're often referred to as the “Peace Corps for geeks” and were born after we helped rescue Healthcare.gov when it went down. Today, the U.S. Digital Service is made up of ~180 people from all backgrounds with a large percentage from Silicon Valley who have chosen a limited tour of duty to serve in government (100+ joining after the election). Our leadership team consists of 60%+ women, and has grown to a network of teams embedded across six federal agencies. Our work impacts the lives of all Americans including veterans, military service members, immigrants, refugees, students, small business owners, Medicare patients, and many others.United States Digital Service is a relatively young organization.
