    United States Steel is looking for a Shift Manager - Maintenance that will be responsible for applying engineering principles, troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques to evaluate and make decisions that resolve operational conditions and improve reliability. In addition, this role will supervise, direct, and coordinate efforts of experienced technicians, craftsmen, and project planners to repair and maintain mechanical and/or electrical equipment to maximize operating efficiencies and improve reliability. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively engage teams and promote an environment of respect, communication, and collaboration through two-way communication and encouraging new ideas and different perspectives that drive individual, team, and company success. Responsibilities: Administer the U. S. Steel safety program to ensure a safe work environment, including proper housekeeping Directly supervise union employees and work closely with vendors and contactors Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers and assign duties accordingly Coordinate, organize, and direct activities of maintenance crews Assists workers in diagnosing malfunction in machinery and equipment Maintain proper inventories of required spares in order to provide efficient operations Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance with a team of mechanical/electrical maintenance staff Use technical knowledge, equipment documentation, safety procedures, and maintenance schedules to follow, improve, and develop preventative and routine maintenance programs Devise and implement cost saving strategies Develop and implement methods and procedures designed to eliminate maintenance problems and improve product quality Perform administrative activities such as scheduling crews, completing reports, conducting safety conversations, and complying other reporting as necessary Requirements: High school diploma or GED required Minimum of 5 years work experience supervising crews in a manufacturing or industrial environment Ability to work rotating shifts which will include extended workdays, weekends, and holidays Preferred Skills: Preferred candidates will have a Bachelor of Science or Associate degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Electrical Maintenance or similar degree program or equivalent years of demonstrated knowledge in a large industrial/maintenance environment. Preferred candidate will have experience supervising unionized employees or similar military leadership experience. Salary: $76,208.81- $91,450.57. This base salary range is a good faith estimate. Based on candidate skills/experience the final offer may be lower/higher.

Summary of Responsibilities: * Managing the maintenance of electrical equipment and providing the day-to-day supervision of the Maintenance Technician Electrical (MTEs) within assigned divisions. * Develop into a maintenance expert for the maintenance systems within the assigned area. * Act as a coach to employees and ensure that they have the tools and knowledge required to safely perform their job. * Enforce safety regulations, conduct daily safety communications, monitor monthly safety activities, and conduct safety inspections as needed. * Manage spending budget using project management skills, and a thorough understanding of the process needed to properly maintain the equipment in the assigned area. * Interact with Purchasing, Operations, Maintenance, Op Tech/Continuous Improvement, Accounting, Engineering, Vendors/Suppliers, and counterparts from other plants. * Develop a maintenance strategy that would ensure a high level of equipment reliability. * This position may require rotating shift work. * Rotating weekend/holiday coverage is required. * Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: * High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from an accredited school * At least 2 years of experience working with skilled craft workers in heavy industry, trade electrical or military. * Strong electrical maintenance aptitude with strong leadership/team skills * Electrical print reading * Computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and exposure to databases. * Demonstrate a willingness to learn other site-specific computer applications. Preferred Qualifications: * Associate or bachelor's Degree from an accredited educational institution in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology * Steel mill experience. * Exposure to a computer-based PM program and/or to equipment reliability program. * Experience in industrial DC crane CP board maintenance/troubleshooting. * Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC ladder logic programming and drive troubleshooting.
