United States Stove company history timeline

1869

Detroit stove manufacturers displayed their stoves during the 1869 Michigan State Fair, where 30,000 people passed through the Domestic Hall to see rows of working stoves, whose combined heat made the exhibit unbearable for most.

Perry reorganized the company to become Albany Stove Works in 1869.

1871

He returned in 1871 and joined the newly formed Michigan Stove Company as operational manager.

1890

In 1890 the Michigan Bureau of Labor Statistics surveyed the Detroit iron industry, including some of the stove companies.

1893

To grab attention at the Chicago World's Columbian Exposition of 1893, George H. Barbour, vice president of the Michigan Stove Co., had his woodcarvers replicate on a gigantic scale a Garland brand model kitchen range built by the firm.

The Michigan Stove Co. exhibited the first electric stove at the Chicago Exposition in 1893.

1920

30, 1920, Jeremiah Dwyer passed away at age 83.

1927

The H. Wetter Manufacturing Company operated the company for 25 years until a historic union strike on December 25, 1927.

In 1927 the Detroit Stove Co. merged with the Michigan Stove Co. to form the Detroit-Michigan Stove Co.

1963

In 1963, United States Stove engineers developed a modern version of the Franklin Fireplace, based on Benjamin Franklin's original Pennsylvania Fireplace design.
