Position Overview We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Staff Engineer to join our geotechnical engineering team. In this entry-level role, you will support a variety of field and office activities, including site investigations, soil and rock data collection, laboratory coordination, and technical reporting. Working alongside experienced engineers and project managers, you'll contribute to evaluating subsurface conditions and assisting with the preparation of engineering documentation that supports infrastructure, environmental, and construction-related projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic foundation in geotechnical or civil engineering, a collaborative attitude, and a desire to learn through hands-on fieldwork and mentorship. Responsibilities Assist with geotechnical site investigations, including soil and rock sampling, borehole logging, field testing, and data collection to support project design and analysis. Perform laboratory soil testing such as moisture content, Atterberg Limits, Proctor compaction, specific gravity, grain size analysis, and strength tests in accordance with ASTM/ODOT standards. Support the evaluation of subsurface conditions by analyzing field and laboratory data under the supervision of senior engineers. Conduct engineering calculations for bearing capacity, settlement, lateral earth pressures, slope stability, and pavement design. Utilize geotechnical engineering software including Slide, Settle3D, Lpile, and other modeling tools to assist with analysis and report development. Contribute to the preparation of geotechnical reports by summarizing findings, preparing figures, and boring logs, interpreting laboratory/field data, and drafting engineering recommendations. Ability to work with others and be able to travel to job site as required Work collaboratively with project engineers and multidisciplinary teams to support design development and project assessments. Assist in reviewing project plans, specifications, and background information to support geotechnical evaluations and project planning. Participate in field and laboratory testing programs and perform quality checks to ensure data accuracy and integrity. Support communication with internal teams, subcontractors, drilling crews, and vendors to coordinate field operations and materials. Help ensure all work is completed in accordance with company health, safety, and environmental policies. Maintain organized project documentation, logs, field forms, and laboratory records per company and regulatory standards. Assist with cost estimating and proposal preparation by compiling technical data and supporting documentation. Participate in quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes to support consistent and accurate deliverables. Continually develop technical skills through training, software use, and engineering mentorship. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, or a related field. 0-3 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, field investigations, or construction materials testing (internship or co-op experience welcomed). Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe. Familiarity with geotechnical concepts, laboratory and field testing methods, and soil/rock behavior. Travel Requirements This position requires travel, approximately up to 20% of the time, in support of business objectives and client engagements. Travel may be both scheduled and on short notice, depending on project needs. Destinations typically include job sites, field locations, or regional offices, where work may be conducted in outdoor or operational environments. Adherence to all company safety protocols and use of PPE is required during travel and on-site work. Physical Demands & Work Environment Work is primarily conducted outdoors with exposure to outdoor conditions, including: Sites that may not be accessible by vehicle, requiring travel on foot through wetlands, swamps, grasslands, construction zones, and other uneven or rugged terrain with natural and man-made obstacles such as sand, brush, and debris. Moderate to loud noise levels due to lab equipment, field operations, and construction environments. Exposure to dirt, dust, chemicals, sun, heat, humidity, and varying weather conditions as part of field sample collection and testing. Physical requirements include: Ability to lift and carry between 35 and 75 lbs. over distances up to 75 feet, involving regular repetitive motion. Ability to stand, walk, drive, and operate laboratory and field equipment for extended periods. Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, pull, kneel, climb, balance, lift, carry, and push as required for laboratory and fieldwork.     Project Engineers assist the Project Manager and Superintendent with the planning and daily execution of construction projects. The Engineer is the link between management, field activities, accounting, and project administration. They also lead the management of the submittal process and approvals, coordinating the timely delivery of materials, maintaining logs, schedules, budgets, and overall facilitate a well-managed project. Successful candidates are easygoing, team-players, with strong communication, project management and client service skills. Responsibilities: Assist in bidder selection and scope of work qualification for Client RFP's and new projects. Assist in subcontractor assignment for projects. Perform some project management responsibilities (with PM oversight), such as: write and administer subcontracts/exhibits; draft cost change requests, lead meetings & job walks, Q.C. coordination, etc. Assist with aspects of the procurement process for assigned projects. Participate in OAC meetings and prepare timely and accurate meeting minutes. Estimate change orders and request pricing for potential changes or cost impacting RFI's and Submittals. Lead the document control process: Distribute plans, specifications, drawings, permits, etc. to appropriate parties and maintain the drawing revisions using PlanGrid and SharePoint applications. Evaluate, prepare, and distribute appropriate RFI's. Gather, prepare, review, and distribute submittals. Maintain accurate logs/records of the activities associated with these processes. Perform Quality Control tasks for installed materials or systems. Assist site Superintendent to resolve unforeseen challenges in the field. Develop and maintain positive relationships with the project team, the client, owner's representative, design team, subcontractors, and others. Support the Superintendent in managing and updating the Project Schedule with confirmed lead-times of materials. Manage the punch-list and close-out process; including warranty, O&M, and as-built documentation collection completed by the Project Coordinator. About the Role We are looking for a proactive Project Engineer to assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of construction projects. This is a vital, full-time, in-office role that requires working closely with Project Managers and field teams to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of safety and quality. Responsibilities Assist with project planning and scheduling. Review project plans and specifications. Manage technical documentation (submittals, RFIs, change orders). Perform quality control inspections. Support the procurement of materials and equipment. Provide technical support to construction teams. Assist in managing project costs and budgets. Qualifications Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction engineering or project management is preferred. Knowledge of construction processes and project management practices.
