Mr. Zapico was elected Chairman of the Board in June 2017 and has been Chief Executive Officer since May 2016. He previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer from January 2013 to May 2016. He was President, Electronic Instruments, from October 2003 to January 2013. He joined AMETEK as a Product Engineer in 1990 and has held a variety of engineering and general management positions. Prior to joining Coherent and beginning in June 2019, he was a Senior Advisor to McKinsey & Company, a leading global management consulting firm, providing corporate and strategic consulting services to various clients of the firm. From January 2018 to May 2019, he was an independent corporate advisor. From 2013 to December 2017, he was the Chief Executive Officer and a member of the board of directors of Diebold Nixdorf Incorporated, a retail and financial services technology systems company. He also served as its President from 2013 to August 2016. Mr. Mattes was the Senior Vice President, Global Strategic Partnerships at Violin Memory, a computer storage systems company, in 2013. He has also held various senior management positions with Hewlett-Packard Co., a computer technologies company. From 2008 to 2011 he was the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Hewlett Packard’s Enterprise Services for the Americas. From 2006 to 2008 he was Hewlett Packard’s Chief Sales Officer for the Enterprise Business. Mr. Mattes spent the first 20 years of his career (between 1985 and 2005) at Siemens, holding a variety of senior leadership positions. These culminated in his role as chief executive officer of Siemens Communications Inc., USA, in Boca Raton, Florida. He received his Diplom-Kaufmann in business administration from Ludwig Maximilan University.
