The caregiver in this role will primarily travel to nursing homes to draw at those sites as well as work in the Mercy Hospital Outpatient Lab. **A caregiver in this position works evenings from 12:30PM - 9:00PM, including rotating weekends and holidays.** A caregiver who excels in this role will: + Perform blood collection for extended care clients and provide service to their residents, (primarily geriatric). + Perform specimen processing and send-out tasks, such as accessioning and packaging for transport. + Follow proper protocol when collecting samples, such as introducing yourself, verifying patient identity, collecting specimens for all tests listed on the requisition, clarifying tests, labeling specimens, transporting and centrifuging. + Provide STAT, scheduled and routine orders. + Ensure all current demographic and insurance information is obtained and verified. + Check appropriate paperwork for each test, patient and/or client. + Complete and submit appropriate administrative paperwork, such as time and mileage reports. + Follow proper laboratory safety procedures. + Be flexible to work a varied schedule as required, including early morning and afternoon shifts, and travel to patient locations. + Carry an on-call pager on assigned weekdays and every other weekend during the hours of 4AM - midnight, answer the pager within 15-30 minutes, arrive at the home within an hour, collect stat draws and have the specimen back to the lab within 2 hours from the time receipt of call. + Adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
