The Department of Languages offers a baccalaureate degree with a primary emphasis in German, Japanese, and Spanish and minor degrees in French, German, Japanese, Spanish, and Cultural Perspectives. Additionally, the department offers ASL and Russian language courses.

Ph.D. in language, literature, culture studies or closely related field by the time of appointment. Disciplinary expertise in language, culture, and literature studies or related discipline. Evidence of college/university level teaching experience. Native or near-native proficiency in French, English and a second language (German, Japanese, or Spanish).
Position Details:
This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in Anchorage, AK. This is a full-time, 9 month base, term faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. Faculty salaries are based on a variety of factors, including education and experience.

This is a full-time (9-month), term, faculty position.
Minimum of 2 years of full-time, or 5 years part-time or adjunct teaching experience in Computer Science, Computer Programming, Computer Information Systems, or related fields.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science required. This eligibility requirement may be met with a related bachelor's degree with at least 18 graduate credits in computer science.

The primary function of the Quantitative Studies faculty member is teaching lower-division mathematics courses to undergraduate college students. This is typically 12-14 credits each semester and lower division mathematics courses typically include MATH A151 College Algebra for calculus and/or MATH A152 Trigonometry. This position might also have the opportunity to teach Statistics courses. The remaining credits are typically allotted to service to the College, University, Profession, and/or Community. The faculty workload is required to be updated annually and can consist of a different ratio of teaching & service equal to 30 units, as approved by the College Director.
To thrive in this role, the ideal candidate is student-centric, committed to student success, and possesses the ability to teach developmental and lower division math courses. Preparing students for a broad range of higher-level courses in varying disciplines is a primary function of this position. To thrive in this role, the applicant should be able to effectively integrate technology into the classroom to support student learning and should be versed in face-to-face, hybrid, and distance delivery formats. The applicant should have the ability to encourage students to be actively engaged in the teaching/learning processes. Minimum Qualifications:

The Outdoor Studies Program, housed in the humanities department of UAS, offers an interdisciplinary liberal arts approach that integrates technical courses in climbing, kayaking, backcountry skiing, and other outdoor pursuits with intellectually challenging courses in philosophy, literature, the social sciences, and other academic areas. The program offers a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies, a Bachelor of Liberal Arts in Outdoor and Adventure Studies, and a two-semester certificate in Outdoor Skills and Leadership.
The UAS Juneau campus overlooks Auke Bay on one side and Auke Lake and the Mendenhall Glacier on the other. Importantly for the Outdoor Studies Program, this beautiful location offers excellent access to salt water, fresh water, mountains, and glaciers.
The ideal candidate will possess the ability to teach both lower and upper-division interdisciplinary academic courses required in the program (examples might include, Philosophy 372: Perspectives on the Natural World, Environmental Studies 120: Cultures and Environments, or Humanities 370: Sport, Leisure, and Culture). The candidate should also have strong outdoor skills and the ability to teach outdoor courses (examples might include, Backpacking in Southeast Alaska, Backcountry Skiing, or Introduction to Sea Kayaking). The required teaching load is 9 credits per term - equivalent to 3/3. And, the candidate is expected to maintain an active research program in humanities or social sciences, with an interest in collaborative, interdisciplinary work.
The role also requires a willingness to lead or assist in expedition courses that involve international travel and time in remote environments. Experience guiding or leading groups in outdoor settings, particularly in cold mountain or coastal environments, and basic competence on skis or snowboard, will be an asset.
UAS is located in Southeast Alaska on the cultural homeland of the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian peoples. The Department of Humanities openly embraces students from all backgrounds and seeks candidates who will foster a climate in which all students are welcomed and supported.

As a tenure-track Department member the successful candidate will teach introductory and upper-division undergraduate courses in statistics, as well as graduate courses in statistical theory and applications, to a mix of majors and non-majors. The typical teaching load will be 4 courses per 9 month academic year. Research in statistical theory and/or applications that meets national and international standards is expected, including publication of peer-reviewed articles, books, and monographs. The goal of quality research is most important, but sustained production is also expected. For applicants with an applied research area, collaboration with a broader research community is appropriate and encouraged. Presentation of research at conferences and workshops is expected, and pursuit of competitive grants is encouraged.
To thrive in this position, a candidate must be self-motivated, invested in nurturing the abilities and academic development of students at all levels, and committed to publishing research in statistics and related areas. The position carries a twofold workload, typically consisting of 80% instruction and 20% professional/service engagement. The successful candidate will teach ECED courses in multiple modalities - face-to-face on Kodiak Island, online synchronous/asynchronous, and will engage in relationship-based advising, community outreach, and partnership development with the Kodiak Island Borough School District, Alutiingcut Child Care Center, USCG Base Kodiak Child Development Center, local early learning centers, and statewide Education faculty.
The ideal candidate will teach a broad range of Early Childhood Education courses; support and mentor students across certificate, AAS, and transfer pathways; and contribute to practicum supervision. This role includes active collaboration with the Teacher Apprenticeship Program, faculty across the UA system, and community and school district partners to ensure aligned curriculum, strong field placements, and workforce development. This is a temporary faculty position. Salary is based on the number of previous semesters teaching experience within the University of Alaska.
