Department:ITMAE Department's Website: Summary of Job Duties:The Undergraduate Researcher will support the research activities under the NSF-funded project investigating the varying dynamics of leadership at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), specifically focusing on understanding the impacts of such turnover, cases of excellence, impacts on research capacity and workforce development. Ultimately, developing recommendations for best practices. The student will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and project staff, gaining hands-on experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods, data collection, analysis, and dissemination. • Assist with literature reviews and background research on HBCU leadership, institutional transitions, and STEM education contexts. • Participate in data collection activities (e.g., surveys, interviews, focus groups) under supervision. • Help in organizing, cleaning, and managing research data (qualitative transcripts, quantitative survey data) and maintaining files. • Contribute to data analysis efforts (e.g., coding qualitative data, assisting with descriptive statistics) and preparation of research summaries. • Support preparation of research dissemination materials (e.g., presentations, reports, posters). • Attend project meetings and contribute ideas for research activities and outreach. • Adhere to research ethics, data protection guidelines, and participate in required training (e.g., IRB, human subjects' protection). • Other duties as assigned consistent with the goals of the project Qualifications: • Enrolled as an undergraduate student at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, preferably in Education, Social Sciences, STEM disciplines, or related fields. • Strong interest in higher education, HBCUs, leadership studies, diversity in STEM, or organizational change. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple tasks. • Comfortable with some data handling and willingness to learn research methods and software (e.g., Word, Excel, SPSS, NVivo or similar). • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Prior research experience is a plus but not required. • Must be available to commit up to 20 hours per week during the semester and abide by the schedule agreed upon with the supervising researcher.
