We offer autoantibody testing, as well as run electrophoresis, IFA, allergy and ELISA assays, as well as many other manual and automated tests. We also do a CSF specific transferrin test, which runs electrophoresis and immunofixation on a body fluid in parallel with serum to check for CSF leakage. Additionally, we work in conjunction with the Dr. Nghiem Lab, which is the only lab in the world that currently runs the Anti-Merkel Cell Panel for Merkel Cell Carcinoma. The Immunology Lab performs a wide range of unique assays from a variety of specialty clinics. We offer autoantibody testing, as well as run electrophoresis, IFA, allergy and ELISA assays, as well as many other manual and automated tests. We also do a CSF specific transferrin test, which runs electrophoresis and immunofixation on a body fluid in parallel with serum to check for CSF leakage. We see interesting results with these patients in both coagulation and in hematology. We also receive samples from multiple community clinics, so we see normal patient samples as well. Additionally, we conduct many body fluid cell counts and differentials. In partnership with the University of Washington, we train MLS students during their clinical rotations as well as residents who will eventually run their own labs. JOB DUTIES * MLT Student Support Specialist will work closely with the MLT faculty to support students in the instructional setting. * Responsible for lab session preparation, implementing lab simulations, and providing services that contribute to student learning and student retention. * Ability to collaborate with faculty in identifying needs and developing and implementing creative laboratory and simulation learning environments. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Work with MLT Faculty to setup each MLT course's hands-on lab exercises. * In collaboration with faculty, review and update laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) manuals and Safety Data Sheets (SDS). * Maintain inventory of supplies and assist with ordering. * Act as the point person for troubleshooting technical issues surrounding lab/simulation equipment. * Meet with MLT student's one on one and/or in-group sessions to reinforce course content. * Assist students in the development good test-taking strategies. * Mentor students on career and academic advancement as a competent medical laboratory technician. * Assist in preparing materials for accreditation reports, as needed. * Other duties may be assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES N/A WORKING CONDITIONS The position requires flexible availability, including days, evenings, and weekends. The position is part time, with hours varying between 8 - 24 hours per week. Please note this position is grant funded and continued employment is subject to grant renewal. (Please note that assigned tasks and responsibilities on both campuses is required for all MCCC positions and should be established with applicants) ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Positions in this class typically require: ability to use a key board, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
