Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Incumbent will perform duties as a Loaner Tray Coordinator: Manages and follows department business and regulatory practices when receiving, inventorying, processing and returning of vendor loaner, consigned and owned instrument & implant trays; when indicated by patient care requirements. Other major duties include, but are not limited to, distribution of supplies or equipment, customer service and departmental efficiencies. Incumbent facilitates care and processing of surgical instruments; and functions in the Certified Sterile Processing Technician role as needed. Cross training will be provided.
Incumbent develops and recommends new policies, procedures, and practice and implements specific recommendations, which may include coordinating with several service departments and personnel; provides advice and assistance with problem solving. Assignments are given according to organizational goals. Attainment of goals are reviewed on an as needed basis within the UCLA Healthcare West Valley Operating Room, WV Campus under the direct supervision of Sterile Processing Manager and Supervisor, Asset Manager, Assistant Director of the Operating Room and the Director of Perioperative Services. Incumbent will collaborate along with the SPD Manager and the Director of Perioperative Services regarding operations within the sterile processing department.
The Instrument Processing Analyst will report to the SPD Manager.

Coordinates evaluations, exams, academic tracking, and communication between faculty and trainees.

The incumbent will monitor, educate, and coach SPs to support them in developing their skills to ensure consistency of role portrayal, accuracy of checklists, appropriateness of feedback to learners, etc. Coordinator will provide assistance in the recruitment of a cohort of Performance Artists necessary to work as SPs and to cast them in appropriate roles, considering level of training, experience, etc. Will collaborate with faculty and staff to develop, implement, evaluate, and improve complex SP events including clinical practice exams and interdisciplinary events. Help develop and maintain SP case materials, assessment tools, and other event materials. Coordinate all activities associated with ongoing administration of SP events. Exemplify an attitude and demeanor consistent with maintaining a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment. Review and update Clinical Skills & Simulation Center Scheduling Policy for undergraduate students or other trainees. Assist learners with required outreach activities and projects involving clinical skills, SPs or off-site activities which may require occasional weekend flexibility for shifts. The incumbent will work closely with the Graduate Medical Education programs and Undergraduate Medical Education including the San Joaquin Valley Program in Medical Education (PRIME) for special events and required clinical practice exams.

The UCSF Fresno Clinical Skills & Simulation Center provides simulation-based training for graduate and undergraduate medical student education programs. Simulation is defined as an educational modality with which the learner physically interacts to mimic an aspect of clinical care for the purpose of teaching or assessment. Activities at the center range from those that use actors (standardized patients), to activities with partial task trainers and/or mannequins. UCSF Fresno Clinical Skills & Simulation Center operates under the Information Technology Services Department with primary staff to handle the technology needs while the Health Education SP Coordinator will manage all aspects of the SP program.

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in evidence-based training methods, SP best-practices, and healthcare education. Under the general supervision of the Program Director at the UCLA Area Service Center (ASC), California Newborn Screening Program (NBS), the Newborn Screening Coordinator coordinates care and follow-up for positive and non-positive Newborn Screening referrals, including inadequates, incompletes (initial and recall specimens), optional TPN-related follow-up, optional hemoglobin follow-up, transfusion verification, and early-collection cases. The Newborn Screening Coordinator interprets State regulations, policies, and procedures for perinatal facilities and providers to ensure compliance. The Coordinator also serves as team leader for facility site visits in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles counties; assesses educational needs of assigned facilities; and contributes to the creation and maintenance of ASC educational materials. Responsibilities include managing data across multiple systems (Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and word-processing platforms), contributing narrative and statistical content to quarterly, annual, and ad-hoc State reports, and providing in-services, presentations (including virtual), and training for healthcare professionals, community agencies, and parent/public groups.
The Newborn Screening Coordinator initiates and assists families in referrals to the special care center for diagnosis and treatment, and follows through on NBS cases to ensure affected infants receive required specialty care. The Coordinator participates as an active team member by reporting on cases and events, sharing notable referrals, and offering clinical expertise for program development. Additional duties include providing back-up coverage for other staff, serving as a clinical or public health resource in developing statistical and educational materials, and helping create presentation content for the broader healthcare community.
