This position is based in Sacramento. Travel is required; 2 to 3 days a month to sites in California. The Medi-Cal Waiver Program (MCWP) will be sunsetting at CDPH as early as 2028, meaning the UCSF Nurse Specialist - Program Evaluation position will end at the same time. California is transitioning to an integrated managed long-term services and supports (MLTSS) system to improve the efficiency of program administration, operations, and service delivery systems allowing Californians to more effectively find and obtain high-quality person-centered care and enhancing the state's ability to predict Medi-Cal costs and measure member outcomes. The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) released a gap analysis report in February 2025 and is now using its findings to collaborate with sister state departments and key stakeholders to develop a multi-year roadmap to integrate select Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) services into managed care. DHCS plans to draft and submit a concept paper for HCBS managed care integration to the Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in early 2026 before finalizing the multi-year roadmap, with integration occurring no earlier than 2028.
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Office of AIDS (OA), Nurse provides highly specialized consultation, technical assistance (TA), training and education to CDPH/OA staff and Medi-Cal Waiver Program (MCWP) Agency personnel. Uses practical nursing knowledge, professional expertise, and sound clinical judgment to serve as the MCWP Nurse performing all MCWP clinical functions to ensure that MCWP participants receive high quality and appropriate care, that MCWP Agencies meet state and federal clinical compliance requirements, and that CDPH/OA meets Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) 1915(C) MCWP Waiver requirements. Evaluates and certifies Nursing Facility Level of Care (NF LOC) for MCWP participants, conducts the clinical portion of Program Compliance Reviews (PCRs) through on-site monitoring and desk audits for MCWP Agencies, and documents progress on meeting CMS HCBS performance measures. Creates and facilitates clinical internal and external trainings, and writes the clinical sections of MCWP plans, reports, surveys, drills, and requests for information. Analyzes medical data and documentation, identifies trends and barriers, develops and presents recommendations to CDPH/OA management.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $140,800 - 150,000 (Annual Rate).

Join Ingalls Memorial Hospital as a Patient Financial Services Denial Specialist. Here, you will join our Revenue Cycle team at our Burr Ridge location. This position will be primarily a work from home opportunity with the requirement to come onsite as needed. You may be based outside of the greater Chicagoland area.
Under general direction, the Patient Financial Services Denial Specialist is responsible for reviewing denied claims and carrying out the appeals process for Ingalls Memorial Hospital. This position works to maintain third-party payer relationships, including responding to inquiries, complaints, and other correspondence, and possibly setting up arbitration between parties. The denial analyst has a working knowledge of state/federal laws that relate to contacts and to the appeals process. Maintains and monitors integrity of the claim development and submission process.
Essential Job Functions
Executes the denial appeals process, which includes receiving, assessing, documenting, tracking, responding to and/or resolving appeals with third-party payers in a timely manner. Regularly makes complex decisions within the scope of the position, and is comfortable working independently
Works closely with insurance and managed care companies to ensure proper review and processing of denied claims
Acts as a liaison between insurance companies and physicians to provide medical necessity for denied claims
Identifies and tracks payer denials trends and works with the payers to correct any erroneous denials and works with the departments to review and improve processes to avoid these denials in the future
Conducts relevant research to assist with completing the appeals process and to stay informed on best practices and policy reforms
Maintains data on the types of claims denied and root causes of denials, and collaborates with team members to make recommendations for improvements and resolving issues
Contacts patients to communicate insurance coverage denials and works with the patient to overturn the denials related to patient information needed
Works closely with Denial Manager to provide key information for the Denial Task Force Meetings. Complies with State and Federal regulations, accreditation/compliance requirements, and Ingalls Memorial Hospital policies, including those regarding fraud and abuse, confidentiality, and HIPAA. Maintains current knowledge of rules and regulations of third party payers. Performs related duties as required
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum 3 years of experience in healthcare billing, collections, payment processing, or denials management (Denial Management experience preferred).
Minimum 3 years of experience using computer programs for tracking denials and appeals
Demonstrated knowledge of: Hospital billing and reimbursement, Medicare and Medicaid denials and appeals, third-party contracts, NCQA guidelines for denials and appeals, federal and state regulations relating to denials and appeals, proven critical thinking and analytical skills, proficient organizational skills and attention to detail, strong writing and communication skills, high level of comfort with computer systems

The major criterion for appointment as **Clinician Educators** is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.
The Cancer Pain Specialist will serve as a faculty lead in Cancer Pain Medicine, expanding access to specialized oncologic pain care through both outpatient visits and procedures as well as inpatient consults. While the role primarily focuses on outpatient care, it also enhances inpatient consult capacity to ensure timely access to treatment. This position strengthens collaboration across oncology, palliative care, and interventional pain services, reducing treatment delays and advancing Stanford's leadership in integrated, patient-centered, and innovative cancer pain management.

Your Role on the Team Duties include, but are not limited to: Responds to patient concerns, issues, and grievances; investigates confidential matters, documents activities, and escalates when necessary.
Tracks and analyzes patient experience data to identify trends, improvement opportunities, and system failures.
Assists patients in interpreting hospital policies, procedures, and services; educates patients about their rights in accordance with state law.
Collaborates with internal stakeholders to ensure consistent delivery of patient-centered care and assists in creating hospital-wide patient service programs.
Identifies priority satisfaction issues, drafts proposals for new initiatives, and contributes to team goals and strategies.
What It Takes to be Successful Required: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve patient issues using sound judgment and diplomacy.
Proven customer service skills with the ability to maintain professionalism, patience, and empathy without admitting wrongdoing.

Oversees and maintains competency testing in the Microbiology Division. Acts as the Quality Assurance specialist and works with the Quality Assurance manager to maintain quality in the Microbiology Division. Oversees studies, method validation and special projects in the Microbiology Division. Collaborates and coordinates effectively with the various divisions of the Laboratory and its clients at all locations; ensures that all job duties are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory agencies, and in a manner that denotes the team concept and reflects the UCSF and ZSFG mission, vision and values. Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate scientific field and minimum 2 years recent (within the last 2 years) experience as a licensed Clinical Lab Scientist with recent experience in clinical microbiology or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Possession of a California Clinical Laboratory License or a similar license of equal or higher level issued by the State Department of Health
Able to work independently, under pressure; recognize and resolve problems while maintaining a high level of organization
Effective verbal and written communication skills relative to clinical results
Extensive knowledge of bacteriology and culture work up practices in a clinical microbiology laboratory
