The Opportunity The Department of Physics in the College of Sciences at the University of Central Florida invites applications for a 9-month, non-tenure, non-instructional Research Associate Professor in the area of fundamental experimental studies of the properties of low dimensional novel materials under ambient conditions. We seek an exceptional scientist whose research focuses on unraveling the structural, electronic, and chemical and physical properties of electronic materials across gas-phase, liquid-phase, and operando environments. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a vibrant, externally funded research program, contribute to mentoring of students, engage in interdisciplinary collaborations, and participate actively in professional service.
Candidates with expertise in the following areas are especially encouraged to apply:
* Fundamental investigations of materials surface structure and dynamics, particularly under reaction and operando conditions.
* Advanced surface analytical techniques, including ambient pressure electron spectroscopy (XPS, UPS, AES), high pressure scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), and related methods.
* Structural characterization of materials using synchrotron radiation techniques, such as X-ray absorption spectroscopy, ambient-pressure XPS, X-ray scattering, or related methods.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a closely related field from an accredited institution;
* A record of impactful research with clear potential to produce transformative scholarship in fundamental studies of materials;
* Experience conducting research using synchrotron radiation facilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Evidence of excellence in mentoring and working with graduate students;
* Experience in the operation, maintenance, and hands-on use of major instrumentation for surface and materials characterization;
* Strong and impactful publication record in materials science, surface science, and materials science;

Responsibilities
The successful individual is expected to develop an innovative and impactful teaching, research and /or extension program addressing issues facing the Florida and U.S. livestock industry; Must be interested and capable of teaching a variety of Animal Science courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; and courses can include but are not limited to Animal Reproduction, Beef Cattle Production, Small Ruminant Production, Animal Anatomy and Physiology, and other Animal Science courses assigned by the Program Leader.

This job is a 9-month, non-tenure earning, annually renewable position that offers a clear career path with the possibility of promotion based on years of service and performance.
The successful candidate will contribute to the mission of the school by teaching undergraduate courses in the Advertising/Public Relations degree program. The candidate may be expected to teach in multiple modalities, including face-to-face and online, and to offer skill-based courses such as Public Relations Writing. The instructional duties and service assignments are in accordance with the department's current equitable workload policy.
Other typical responsibilities include actively participating in the school's academic life. This includes serving on committees, attending faculty meetings and graduations, engaging with student groups to foster student professional development outside of the classroom, and assessing student learning. External service expectations may include work with appropriate academic bodies and professional organizations.
