PAY GRADE: 28N CONTEXT OF THE JOB: The mission of the Delaware Geological Survey (DGS) includes research, exploration and service. Statutory charges include the following: systematic investigation of the geology of Delaware; exploration and research pertaining to the water, mineral, and other earth resources; preparation of reports and maps presenting its findings; and provision of factual information and advice to the officials and citizens of Delaware.
Under the general direction of a senior investigator, the ResearchAssociate I will independently perform basic data collection and applied research related to the collection, organization, and dissemination of data resources related to the geology and hydrogeology of Delaware. This is position is supported by external funds.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Assists the senior investigators with data management projects related to the Geology of Delaware from records of DGS, other State and Federal agencies, and private entities.
* Collects and compiles data including, but not limited to, lithology and geophysical logs, well records, aerial photographs, archival maps, and geologic samples, and assists with the development of internet-based resources for their public dissemination.
* Conducts inventory and organization of legacy datasets.
* Populates databases and assists with metadata creation and management for DGS spatial data and publications.
* Provides support to senior investigators for document writing and graphics creation related to the preparation of publications, data products, and web products.
* Provides support to other DGS investigators for geological and hydrological field operations.
* Assists the senior investigators with preparation of proposals for external funding and preparation of contact reports and project deliverables.
* Along with the senior investigators, supervises and directs students, hourly-paid employees, and interns.
* Anticipates and/or identifies issues related to complex problems and situations and works with staff to solve problems.
* Interacts with Federal, State, and private partners and with faculty and researchers at the University of Delaware and other academic institutions as project work demands.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's degree in geology, environmental science, or other related field and one year of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Basic knowledge of geologic sample description, geophysical well-logs, and interpretation of geologic cross-sections and geologic maps.
* Knowledge of and proficiency with PC-based (Windows) database management (Access or Oracle) and geographical information software. Course work in geographic information systems and familiarity with methods of data delivery on the web are desirable.
* Interest in and aptitude for learning new technologies, software, and equipment.
* Ability to work with IT and data specialists to assist in the development of internet-based resources for public access to data and preparation of technical reports.
* Effective written and oral communication skills.
* Knowledge of geologic and hydrogeologic units of the Atlantic Coastal Plain preferred.
* Excellent organizational skills.
* Ability to interact and work collaboratively with a varied group of individuals, including personnel at the University and the general public.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
* Possession of a driver's license with the ability to operate vehicles legally in Delaware.
* Position requires work inside at a computer workstation and occasionally physically demanding work, including lifting equipment of up to 50 pounds.

The successful candidate will conduct experimental research on artificial spin lattices using microwave spectroscopy and Brillouin light scattering (BLS) spectroscopy, complemented by micromagnetic modeling of the experimental results. The fellowship will involve work related to the setup and operation of a wave-vector-resolved Brillouin light scattering spectrometer. The Postdoctoral Fellow is encouraged to pursue independent research directions aligned with the group's broader scientific goals.
The fellow may engage in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, as well as engage in scientific activities of the research group.
Applicants must hold a PhD in physics, materials science, or a closely related field relevant to experimental condensed matter physics. Prior experience with Brillouin light scattering spectroscopy is required. Experience in microwave spectroscopy, thin-film deposition, and nanofabrication using optical and electron-beam lithography is highly desirable. The successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to develop independent research strategies while working effectively within a collaborative research team.

I. Goals and Objectives of Training Program
A. General Goals :
1. Develop knowledge and skills in basic research methodology by completion of selected course work at The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health and/or School of Medicine (GTPCI program), coupled with direct tutelage from a research faculty advisor. B. Clinical Goals:
1. Develop further clinical competence in academic emergency medicine.

3. Develop clinical expertise and national recognition in a selected area of acute care, aligned with the fellow's chosen area of research.
C. Research Goals:
1. Acquire competence in basic and advanced principles of research methodology.

5. Develop skills in, submit and acquire institutional, regional and/or national grant support.

D. Teaching Goals:
1. Deliver 3-5 core curriculum lectures each year to the emergency medicine residents.
2. Serve as alongside core research members to organize and oversee the monthly emergency medicine resident journal club/evidence based curriculum, which provides resident physicians with the basic skills required for critical review of the literature.
3. Present research results at Grand Rounds prior to the completion of fellowship training.
4. Provide mentorship to emergency medicine residents working on specified research projects, and assist them in analysis, writing and submission of their work to a national peer-review forum.
5. Supervise the JHU summer medical students' emergency medicine research rotation and/or a medical student focused projects. The fellow's role includes formal didactics, oversight of study design and implementation, and mentorship in medical writing.
6. Serve as a research mentor to Masters level students from the School of Hygiene and Public Health who are pursuing projects relevant to emergency medicine. Fellows will be expected to meet at least goal 5 or 6 (determined by the area of focus, based on guidance from the Fellowship Director.
II. Program Description
A. Faculty:
i. Fellowship Program Director: The Fellowship Director will supervise all fellow functions. The
program is under the administrative guidance of the Chairman of the Department of
Emergency Medicine for non-fellowship related responsibilities.
ii. Role of Other Faculty: Selected Emergency Department faculty will serve as the principal mentors for the fellows. Researchers from faculty outside the Department of Emergency Medicine, who have established track records of successful collaborative investigation with the Department of Emergency Medicine, will function as research advisors as well.
B. Trainees:
The duration of the research fellowship is two years; where previous experience allows, the fellowship can be one year. There will be one fellow at each level.
C. Teaching:
The fellow will have an active teaching role in teaching in a variety of settings (see ID, in ACGME supplement document).
D. Structure of Program:
The research fellow plays an integral role within a carefully planned National Center of Excellence in Research, which was established in 1998 by a grant from Emergency Medicine Foundation (EMF). The goal of the research center is to answer question related to access, utilization, cost, qualify, effectiveness and outcomes for acute and episodic illness. The Center provides an infrastructure intended to train and advance the careers of emergency medicine academicians.
Teaching and training programs integral to the fellowship include:
i.. The summer medical student research training program.
ii. The emergency medicine residency research program.
iii. The emergency medicine residency Journal Club/evidence based teaching series.
iv. A yearly research symposium.
Established investigators from any of the schools and divisions in JHU including the School of Public Health, School of nursing the Division of Infectious Diseases, ACCM, Critical Care/Pulmonology and other relevant departments in the SOM , function as senior mentors/advisors, bringing different orientations and expertise to the Center.
The research fellow is provided with day to day mentoring from designated faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine Monthly progress meetings include the senior advisors, the immediate faculty advisor and the research fellow. Quarterly meetings, provide a forum for the Center Director and External Advisor to critique the progress of the research fellow. Verbal feedback is provided to the fellow at the end of each quarterly meeting; in instances where sufficient progress is not being made, written feedback with a specified plan for remediation is offered.
E. Hours and Supervisor:
The maximum number of hours of clinical responsibility will be 18 hours per week (approximately 800 formal clinical duty hours). Clinical hours may be adjusted depending on the intensity of the research/educational experience. Level of supervision will be determined individually based on the fellows demonstrated level of autonomy. Standing programs to ensure progress, include the bimonthly research meeting, the monthly individual fellow meeting, and the quarterly assessment meeting with the Fellowship/Center Director.
III. Evaluation
A. Trainee:
The fellow will be evaluated upon completion of the first and second year by the Fellowship Director. The participant s performance will be formally reviewed by faculty advisors from both within and outside the Department of Emergency Medicine. Clinical performance will be reviewed by the Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine. Written feedback, which will be reviewed with the participant by the Fellowship Director, will also include evaluations by all training physicians and students who were mentored by the fellow.
B. Program and Faculty:
Research fellows complete a yearly evaluation form which is reviewed and acted upon by the Fellowship Director. Individual faculty reviews are included as part of this evaluation.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is leading an international initiative to develop standardized test methods for ground-based robotic systems and small unmanned aircraft systems. This work is being carried out through the ASTM International Standards Committee on Homeland Security Applications--Response Robots (ASTM E54.09).
NIST invites collaboration on research and development efforts aimed at advancing standardized testing for robotic systems. The scope of this collaborative research includes:
+ Designing test apparatuses, performance metrics, and data collection tools to evaluate system capabilities and remote operator proficiency.
+ Validating testing protocols, modeling and simulation tools, and reference materials.
+ Analyzing experimental data to establish average and best-in-class performance benchmarks, enabling responders to assess and compare their systems using standardized metrics.
+ Analyze sensor data and draw suitable conclusions for improving the robot's efficiency

As the Research Amplification Specialist, you will play a key role in the rapid growth of UL as you:
Develop and execute marketing plans to amplify UL Research Institutes' Fire Safety Research Institute findings and maximize reach and impact across multiple channels and audiences.
Support the development of press releases and media materials and content that enable the amplification team to build relationships with media outlets and journalists to secure media coverage for research findings.
Develop content for social media campaigns to promote research findings and engage with the online community.
Develop content to promote events, webinars, and workshops to distribute research findings and engage with stakeholders. Support logistics for virtual and in-person events, including invitations, registration, and follow-up.

Plans and directs the conduct of research operations which involves external partners at the University of Maryland, Northwestern University, and SC2, internal collaborators, and Chicago community-based organizations. Develops project plans, develops SOPs, oversees progress on all research activities and objectives, assists in writing progress reports and budget management. Responsible for managing research data collection staff, developing and implementing effective data management and regulatory procedures, and ensuring research staff are properly trained in human subject's research and project protocols.
The Research Project Manager works under the general supervision of a PI(s) to manage the administrative and scientific implementation of a single complex and/or multiple research projects. As part of a research team, collaborates with faculty, develops project plan(s), develops SOPs, and oversees all activities for one or more research projects. Has accountability for grant submission and administration, and regulatory compliance. Supervises or oversees other exempt level research staff; may oversee staff at local or multiple sites.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
* Partner with investigator(s) and exercises independent judgement in managing the conduct of the research on behalf of the PI.
* Participate in scientific discussions with collaborators, PIs, and funding organizations.
* Collaborate with PI on protocol development and study design.
* Develop, or oversee development of standard operating procedures and data collection forms from protocol.
* Train and provide oversight of research data management and regulatory compliance issues.
* Develop, or oversee development of, study budget(s) and ensure that all study costs are included in the budget.
* Assist PI with financial management of the project.
* Ensure the development, testing and evaluation of manuals, questionnaires, and coding structures, for the efficient collection of data.
* Oversee data collection and validation.
* Oversee quality control of study data.
* Lead study meetings to examine data, determine next steps, and implement changes to protocol operations based on results and goals.
* Contribute to presentations and manuscripts.
* Responsible for the recruitment, training, and supervision of research staff.
* Other duties as assigned.
In addition to the duties described above
* Will travel to multiple sites throughout Chicago to Community Violence Intervention Sites and work independently mostly when not on site.
* Will be interfacing with partners and people in the community sites.
Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
* Five years of related research experience.
* Demonstrated supervisory or lead responsibilities.
* Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
* Master's Degree in a related field.
* IRB experience and community engagement.
* Important to have good management and leadership skills as the project is quite large.
* Bilingual Spanish and gun violence experience would be a plus.
