Job Description:
Provide support to faculty members in research projects involving ruminant species, primarily beef cattle, but potentially including dairy cattle, buffaloes, and small ruminants. Typical duties include:
* Plan and participate in research projects.
* Performance of various biochemical and molecular biological analyses using a variety of equipment dependent on the research objectives and experimental design established in conjunction with the faculty member, i.e, ELISA, DNA extraction, PCR (end-point and real-time), Wester blotting, Immunomicroscopy, Immunehistochemistry, and Immunofluorecence and sperm count, etc.
* Standardization of methods and develop new procedures applicable to the experimental and research protocols of laboratory users.
* Assist in grant proposal preparation, literature searches, retrieval of material, data collection, processing, basic statistical evaluation, and assistance with preparation of manuscripts.
* Assist in working with computer applications, i.e., basic word processing, graphics, slide preparation, statistical programs and data management programs, including gene expression, omics and "big-data".
* Collaborate in data and sample collection and other field activities, including but not limited to: rectal palpation and ultrasonography, collection of biological material (i.e.: blood, biopcies, cells, etc.), feeding animals, among others.
* Collaborate with faculty and fellow researchers to optimize research goals.
* Coordinates special studies or projects as directed.
Manage a Multi-Principle Investigator Laboratory
* Maintenance of laboratory equipment and laboratory physical area, including ordering supplies, equipment and inventory record keeping.
* Coordinate with research staff on issues which impact laboratory services/research.
* Maintain liaison with investigators, research personnel and staff to solve specific operating problems and improve technical activities.
* Acts as an advisor to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems.
* Administer and coordinate the technical activities, educational programs, and infrastructure related to the operation of laboratory.
* Perform duties as required or deemed appropriate to the accomplishment of the responsibilities and functions of the laboratory area.
* Recommends, drafts and implements operating policies and procedures.
* Assist in the interpretation and implementation of laboratory policies and procedures.
* Insure that Standard Operating Procedures are developed, maintained and applied.

The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is looking for an Associate Scientist to join the new Sylvester Proteomic Shared Resource (PSR), to apply state of the art LC-MS based methods and techniques for quantitative proteomics.
As an Associate Scientist in the PSR, you will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of a modern high resolution orbitrap mass spectrometer as well as performing detailed biochemical sample processing techniques. In addition, you will be part of a small, agile, interdisciplinary team that seeks to invent innovative methods that can be used in the development of diagnostics aimed at getting the right treatment to right patients and understanding the fundamental underpinnings of cancer biology. The individual will:
Be the primary person responsible for the use of a new Orbitrap Ascend Tribrid LC-MS instrument for proteomic applications.
Manage inventory of lab consumables, including ordering, receiving, and storage of supply stocks.
Prepare protein samples from a wide range of specimen (e.g., cells, tissues, biofluids, and SDS Page gels)
Implement of both bottom-up & top-down proteomic approaches.
Be responsible for global proteome profiling by data-dependent (DDA) and data-independent (DIA) acquisition mass spectrometry and mass bar-codes. Detection of post-translational modifications (e.g., phosphorylation, acetylation).
Perform relative quantification of proteins by label-free and stable-isotope labelling strategies (e.g., SILAC, TMT).
Be responsible for structural proteomics (e.g., cross-linking, pull-down experiments).
Conduct single-cell proteomics analysis.
Perform intact protein analysis & MW determination.
Use proteomics software (e.g., Proteome Discoverer, MASCOT) for data analysis.
Be responsible for operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of a Orbitrap Ascend Tribrid Mass Spectrometer and other laboratory equipment as needed.
Assess experimental results and troubleshoot methods and instruments to optimize research protocols.
Collaborate with technicians, graduate students, post-docs, PIs, the laboratory director & colleagues.
Education:
Ph.D. in Science or Engineering (Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Biology, Chemistry, or related field)
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience. Five years of related experience with mass spectrometry instruments which includes 2 years of experience in proteomics mass spectrometry applications.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Hands-on experience operating and/or maintaining LC-MS instruments and supporting equipment (including auxiliary systems such as chillers, controls, electronics, pumps, vacuum systems, etc.)
Strong interest in handling, processing, and analyzing high-throughput datasets.

The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center is currently seeking a Scientist who will join the Cancer Modeling Shared Resource. This translational facility provides qualified, cost effective and state-of-the art services to foster cancer research advancements and accelerate the discovery of tailored antitumor therapies. We are seeking a dynamic individual who would like to participate in the creation and development of new service lines in a busy and fast-paced environment, mainly focused on the generation of state-of-the-art in vivo and tissue-based research services and the operational aspects of the facility. This person will directly assist the Director in running and implementing these new services to support researchers in the field of translational research and disease modeling. The successful candidate will also participate in the planning and implementation research projects including being responsible for the experimental design, procurement and validation of the services provided and models produced under the direction of Dr. Bilbao.

We are searching for a Research Scientist with expertise in software engineering, visualization, immersive technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and computational science to support the design, development, and integration of next-generation visual simulations and intelligent systems. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team conducting applied research in simulation-based training, modeling, data analytics, and intelligent decision-support systems.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and implement software architectures, frameworks, and prototypes for high-fidelity visual simulations and AI-enabled environments and applications.
Apply computational models, data-driven algorithms, and physics-based simulation methods to enhance realism and interactivity in diverse domain systems and applications.
Work with interdisciplinary teams including engineers, cognitive scientists, and domain experts to define research objectives, design experiments, and analyze results.
Provide technical guidance on software engineering best practices, simulation technologies, and computational frameworks. Contribute to architecture design, performance optimization, and software verification and validation.
Create prototypes and capabilities demonstrators to showcase IST's expertise aligned with trends and opportunities.
Manage the common labs and provide guidance on equipment and infrastructure acquisition and upgrades.
Contribute to or lead the preparation of grant proposals and technical reports for federal, state, and industry sponsors.
Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. Present technical results to sponsors, collaborators, and stakeholders. Design and execute hands-on demonstrations and exhibits at strategic events.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, M&S, Engineering, or a related discipline in modeling and simulation is required at time of application.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong programming skills in one or more of the following: C++, Python, C#, with experience in modern software engineering practices (version control, CI/CD, modular design).
Experience with distributed systems, GPU computing, or cloud-based simulation environments.
Knowledge of human-in-the-loop simulation, training effectiveness evaluation, or synthetic environments.
Experience in government or defense research environments.
Record of successful proposal writing and sponsored research funding.
Demonstrated experience in software development for simulation systems, high-performance computing, or AI-based applications.
Familiarity with simulation frameworks (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine, Paraview, Fluent, or similar visual simulation engines).
Experience with AI/ML tools and frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn).
Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary research teams and communicate complex concepts clearly.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Technician/Research Associate will assist scientists and students including undergraduate students in daily experiments, conduct independent experiments, collect and analyze data, write reports, maintain records/log books/ lab equipment/ inventories, feed animals, conduct tissue culture experiments, and order supplies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist independent researchers such as Project Director, Post Doc and Research Associates in the field or the laboratory.
Assist Research Specialists with executing research activities as part of a team to perform daily required maintenance of research activities, maintain tidiness of work areas, take observation, record data, and maintain research notebooks.
Enter research data in MS Excel or other workbooks.
Represent the lab in activities such as the Georgia National Fair, AG Field Day and AG Expo, seminars.
Report daily activities to supervisor.
Work to create a safe work environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BS degree in Entomology, Plant Science, Botany, Biology, Public Health or Food Science, or related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in working with row crop entomologists
Prior experience working in the field and greenhouse growing crops, greenhouse, or working experience for any research in the field or laboratory
Experience in integrated pest management, particularly in biological control and microbial pesticides
Knowledge data collation and analysis
WORK CONDITIONS:
Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm
Occasional evening/night/weekend work required according to the needs of the department
Occasional travel required for research activities and for presenting research papers in professional meetings
PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS:
