The Kenan Fellows High School Student Summer Research interns will have the opportunity to: (1) become comfortable in a laboratory setting; (2) increase your research skills; (3) learn to think critically about the theory and application of interdisciplinary biomedical research; and (4) increase your proficiency in communicating scientific concepts. This internship is intended for students interested in gaining experience as a scientist and learning about career opportunities in biomedical research.
The following materials are required to be considered for the program:

Expected Salary:
Stipend of $4,480.00 for the entirety of the internship, to be paid out biweekly over the eight-week program.
Minimum Requirements:
Acceptance into the Kenan Fellows High School Student Summer Internship is awarded on a competitive basis to Palm Beach and Martin County high school students entering their junior and senior year after the summer.
Students must be 16 years of age by June 5, 2026.
The intern must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
This summer internship position is full-time for eight weeks. The intern will be expected to be on campus every day unless they have an approved reason, such as illness.
Acceptance of family members of existing University of Florida employees in the program will be subject to compliance with the UF's nepotism policy.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience in research laboratories not needed. This is a training internship. However, student should demonstrate passion for science and mathematics through participation in school and extracurricular activities, additional courses, or volunteering.

SOFWERX is a venue operated under an agreement between the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and DefenseWERX, designed to increase collaboration and innovation to solve the most difficult warfighter problems. SOFWERX is a forum for accelerating delivery of innovative capability, and facilitating capability refinement through exploration, experimentation, and assessment of promising technology. SOFWERX is in the heart of Ybor City, at a neutral, easily accessible facility.
The internship program is administered by USF Institute of Applied Engineering. Upon hire, you will be considered both a USF IAE Temporary Employee and a SOFWERX student intern.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities
Plan, lead, and coordinate team-wide market research efforts by developing and implementing data query and collection strategies, managing a landing webpage, creating collection forms, and administering a database.
Use simple Excel functions and formulas to perform quantitative analysis on research submissions.
Conduct market research on USSOCOM areas of interest to find emerging technologies that would contribute to SOFWERX's goals and projects.
Evaluate academic publications and technical reports to identify the characteristics, capabilities, and limitations of the science or technology.
Scout and source experts from academia, industry, and laboratories and consolidate findings into research reports.
Create Market Research curriculum, facilitate training, and develop new tools, techniques, and practices to optimize the Market Research process.
Present briefings and presentations to the SOFWERX team.
Time commitment
Hours of operation are 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday thru Friday.
This position requires a minimum of 15 hours and a maximum of 20 hours per week during the Fall/Spring semesters and a minimum of 20 hours and a maximum of 29 hours per week during the Summer semester.
This internship is in-person with limited remote work opportunities.

In addition, The Youth and Family Intern will conduct research and develop in-gallery activities for summer and future programs.
Responsibilities of the Youth and Family Intern will include:
* Helping to plan, prep, and implement summer programs such as ROAR!, Family Art Making, and Open Studio.
* Facilitating Family Nights at The Museum.
* Assisting with a multi-part teen program and helping to facilitate art making activities with a variety of age ranges at The Ringling.
* Researching and developing future programming and related materials that interest the intern.
* Attending weekly Education Team meetings and learning about other programs and opportunities within the Education department at The Ringling Museum.
Qualifications
* Ability to start internship promptly on June 5, 2026, and stay through July 31, 2026.
* High school diploma or GED equivalent and currently pursuing a higher education degree.
* Interest in working with children and families.
* Ability to:
* Use Microsoft Suite programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Assist with setup and clean-up of art-making programs at the museum, which will include bending, reaching, and lifting up to 15 lbs.
* Valid Driver's License or ability to obtain prior to hire.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience using Canva.
* Effective organizational and communication skills.
* Degree seeking in and/or coursework related to art, art history, art education, museum studies, history, or anthropology.
* Experience working with children.
* Excellent research and writing skills.

Through the position of Youth and Family intern, the selected candidate will achieve the following learning outcomes:
* Learn the steps in planning and implementing a program at a large art museum.
* Gain experience researching and writing educational materials for public audiences.
* Gain experience working with children of all ages and their families.
* Collaborate with other members of the education team and museum staff.
* Work with volunteers at The Ringling in a collaborative setting.
* Expand their knowledge of art/art history through The Ringling's collection and additional educational opportunities throughout the summer.
