Position Summary The Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Data Visualization, beginning August 2026. This position is part of the President's Strategic Hiring Initiative (PHI) in Risk, Resilience, and Sustainability, which emphasizes Disaster, Risk, and Communication. The cluster fosters interdisciplinary collaboration across the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and other UGA schools and colleges to address pressing challenges involving environmental hazards, risk perception, and the communication of complex data. We seek candidates committed to cross-disciplinary collaboration, particularly at the intersections of design, science, technology, and public engagement. The role offers opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across the arts, humanities, and sciences to translate complex information and datasets into clear, meaningful, and accessible forms-ranging from visual communication and information design to data storytelling and generative or emergent media. The successful candidate will teach primarily at the undergraduate level, with opportunities for graduate instruction related to data visualization, generative media, graphic design, and visual communication. The typical teaching load will be four courses (2/2, 12 credits) per academic year. The candidate will maintain an active program of research and creative practice, mentor students, contribute to curricular development, and participate in departmental, college, and university service. This position supports the School's efforts to expand its program in scientific visualization. Upon hire, the faculty member is expected to play an important role in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in their areas of expertise by contributing to teaching existing Couple and Family Therapy doctoral level courses and teaching undergraduate courses when needed. It is expected that CFT content must be responsive to standards outlined by the Commission on Accreditation of Marital and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE). As a CFT core faculty member in HDFS, this hire will provide clinical supervision for doctoral student therapists enrolled in practicum courses; mentor graduate students; contribute as a committee member in a way that increases critical thinking about traumatic stress, grief, resilience, hospital settings and other allied health and behavioral health communities; and participate in service on departmental, college, and/or university committees to support education and engagement missions. The mathematics education group works closely with the College of Education to develop and revise curriculum for courses for elementary and middle grade majors. Job Summary Reporting to the department chair, the Lecturer position requires excellence in teaching with a classroom instructional load as assigned by the Department Chair and service to the department, college, and university at a level consistent with workload. The position is a non-tenure-track academic year (10 month) appointment. While the primary teaching role will be for mathematics education courses, there is the possibility of teaching introductory core courses as well. Required Qualifications * Earned Master s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or closely related field with at least 18 hours of graduate-level mathematics by August 1, 2026. * Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives. * Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development. * Demonstrated commitment to teaching. Preferred Qualifications * Degree in Mathematics Education * Experience teaching mathematics content or mathematics methods courses for prospective teachers * Experience teaching in the K-12 classroom * Ability to teach face-to-face and online courses Proposed Salary * Commensurate with experience. * This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
