The technician's primary responsibilities involve establishing and maintaining a large common garden experiment (~7,000 plants) in Ithaca, New York. This includes preparing seeds for planting, planting seeds, setting up the garden infrastructure, building open-top chambers, collecting data on traits and fitness, entering data, maintenance tasks in the garden (e.g., weeding), and processing samples in the lab. The Research Technician is part of a research team that explores the neuroinflammatory process during various neurological disorders such as HIV - associated neurocognitive disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder. This position is 100% grant-funded, and continued employment is subject to the availability of funds. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Performs biochemical and molecular techniques including but not limited to: o Isolating primary monocyte-derived macrophages from human samples. o Maintaining rat colony and isolating rat cortical neurons. o Conducting and maintaining biosafety level-2 tissue cultures. o Performing various assays based on electrophoresis (including western blot) immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, and other molecular and biochemical procedures. o Preparing DNA and RNA extracts to perform qPCR, and genotyping.
