* *Serves as a working supervisor to Division Administrators, assigning and reviewing work using equitable, metrics-based workload distribution strategies; provides training and ensures consistent application of departmental procedures.
* *Represents and advocates for Division Assistants in communications with the Oceanography Office and faculty supervisors.

* *Provides personnel support for activities such as hiring staff, students, and faculty. Oversees the process to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.

* Facilitates sub-award contracts and payments for collaborating institutions, applying structured reasoning to ensure correct processing of multi-institutional agreements.

Minimum Qualifications

Position Summary:

INTRODUCTION

* Develops policies and budgets with the Dean's concurrence.
* Maintains liaison with National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) partnership offices on issues relating to Cooperative Extension, including all Smith Lever funds, annual plans of work, and accomplishments, and impact/implementation reports. Represents CTAHR regionally and nationally, including attendance at the regular meetings of the Western Extension Directors Association.
* Actively seeks and encourages Extension faculty to seek external funding for Extension/research programs.
* Develops and implements, in collaboration with University resources, a faculty development program focusing on Extension faculty enhancement.
* In cooperation with the Associate Dean and Associate Director for Research, manages an internal grants program.
* Identifies Extension position priorities and position reassignments according to evolving Extension priorities.
* Participates in the administration of off-campus research/Extension centers with department chairpersons, county administrators, and CTAHR Administration.
* Oversees the Agriculture Diagnostic Service Center.
* Coordinates the Extension budget and allocations of State and Federal Extension funds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Ph.D. in a discipline associated with CTAHR from an accredited college or university.
* Attainment of the academic rank of professor or equivalent, or have demonstrated a record of comparable professional experience prior to appointment.
* Five (5) years of leadership experience in higher education at the department chair or program director level or higher administrative position.
* Experience in Cooperative Extension, along with a comprehensive understanding of the State-Federal Extension partnership.

Manoa:
* Develop, review, update and implement the emergency management and response plan for the Manoa campus. The plan shall identify and address all distinct categories of emergencies as it impacts all campus-departments, including a detailed response plan for each emergency/department. This position is also responsible for training all stakeholders on the response plan on a regular basis; and develop a regular communication plan to keep all stakeholders abreast of any changes or updates to the plan.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Provide support to classroom and laboratory instruction, encompassing a wide range of highly developed clinical skills and experience, including anesthesia, in handling a broad range of species (small animals, exotics, and large animals).
* Prepare laboratory and classroom for instruction in surgery and anesthesia, dentistry and anesthesia, large animal clinical procedures, companion animal nursing, etc., to safeguard patients, students and faculty.
* Maintain Biosafety Level 2 laboratory and equipment. Properly clean, sanitize, and organize laboratory facilities, equipment, and supplies. Sterilize and dispose of biohazard waste (bloody gauze, tissues, & other byproduct items from surgical procedures.
* Demonstrate and supervise students on proper animal handling and restraint, catheter placement, medication calculation and administration, anesthesia induction and maintenance. Demonstrate proper troubleshooting in the event of errors or alarms.
* Demonstrate and supervise students in the proper use and maintenance of dental machinery, equipment, and tools, including proper dental radiography techniques and positioning.
* Coordinate with faculty in organizing and supervising students during kennel duty hours. Monitor well-being of animal patients through feedings, walking, cleaning, etc.
* Conduct routine inventory and oversee inventory management, working with faculty to purchase program supplies and equipment.
* Solicit price quotes for purchases; make purchases using a PCard or generate requisitions; prepare purchase orders; accept incoming shipments and store materials. Operate a State vehicle to pick up supplies.
* Responsible for annual inventory reporting, including all instructional supplies, equipment, and chemicals.
* Coordinate with shelters to ensure adequate availability of animal patients for classroom and laboratory instruction. May transport animal patients using State vehicle.
* Schedule animals for surgery and dentistry labs, ensuring dentistry animals are first processed through the nursing lab. Perform dental physical exams and bloodwork prior to scheduling dentistry appointments.
* Ensure compliance in accordance with regulatory agencies and University policies and procedures, including licensures for equipment, payments of fees, etc. Maintain timely and accurate records.
* Maintain and calibrate anesthesia, monitoring, dental machines, and related equipment; update equipment programming and software on chemistry and hematology machines; maintain the digital archive and record-keeping system (AVImark); and manage payments for related services, systems, memberships, and subscriptions.
* Ensure compliance in accordance with regulatory agencies and University policies and procedures, including licensures for equipment, payments of fees, etc.
* Maintain timely and accurate records related to controlled substances, radiation exposure, and regulatory compliance for applicable agencies and University of Hawaii departments, including the American Veterinary Medical Association, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, State of Hawaii Department of Health, UH Office of Research Compliance, and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
* Assist Program Director in preparing for site inspections and accreditation visits, including, but not limited to, ensuring all log books are complete and updated, all inventory is 'in date', and equipment is properly labelled and maintained.
* Test and maintain the Vet Tech Annex back-up generator on a monthly basis. Operate the generator as needed or as directed.

Minimum Qualifications
* Possession of a 2-year degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA-accredited program and 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for veterinary clinical duties (3 of which must be at the level of technician); or equivalent education/training or experience.
* Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of veterinary care of small animals, exotics, and/or large animals in a clinical setting as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
