May provide support to enterprise systems. Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the University infrastructure. This position requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or not criminal history or continuous connections for the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the employee from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.
1. Codes, tests, debugs, modifies and troubleshoots application programs and ad-hoc programs in accordance with shop standards.
2. Analyzes complex application processes and integrated computer systems and their underlying data structures; identifies and resolves problems.
3. Defines, analyzes and documents business processes, practices and requirements.
4. Assists users in testing business processes; defines, conducts and monitors system test procedures.
5. Provides technical assistance and training to junior-level staff.
6. Documents tables, data structures, run streams, and programs according to generally accepted practices.
7. Develops technical documents pertaining to system design and programming requirements; develops user manuals.
8. Uses non-core technologies to design, code, test, debug, modify and troubleshoot systems, such as voice activated responses, electronic data interchange and web interfaces.

Purpose
The R&D Signal and Information Processing Software Developer will support software development and integration of real-time mid-frequency active sonar processing capabilities, including algorithm design, implementation, verification, and performance analysis, within the Signal and Information Sciences Laboratory's (SISL) Active Sonar Group.
Responsibilities
Work closely with project leadership and stakeholders to identify software requirements, plan development and integration related tasking, and ensure technical execution matches design goals.
Communicate and collaborate with team members to design and develop new software features and maintain existing software solutions.
Lead software tasking and development for all software engineering phases and provide regular status updates to project leadership. Support the delivery of high-quality software by prioritizing testing and incorporating testing methodologies throughout the software development lifecycle.
Lead software integration activities by working closely with external collaborators to integrate software components into the tactical sonar systems. Troubleshoot and debug issues identified during integration activities and acceptance testing in support of on-time delivery of the system.
Participate in code reviews and ensure development best practices are followed to adhere to existing coding standards and performance requirements. Document and improve process, as needed.
Document software design and implementation, support procedures, and troubleshooting guides to foster knowledge sharing across the team. Document and address issues.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Physics, or other related discipline.
Three years of experience in software development.
Demonstrated proficiency with C++ software development in Linux
Thorough understanding of object-oriented programming concepts, data structures, design patterns, and algorithm performance analysis.
Thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle, testing methodologies, and utilization of common application debugging and performance profiling tools.
Experience troubleshooting complex software systems.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Analyze district needs as outlined by the Windham School District administration regarding detailed data processing equipment requirements and capabilities.
2. Analyze proposed automated data processes in terms of resources and cost justification.
3. Document existing and proposed computer applications.
4. Develop automated systems.
5. Code, prepare test data, test, debug programs and maintain complex applications.
6. Monitor and assist in the evaluation, maintenance and application development.
7. Document procedures used in the development and revision of computer programs.
8. Analyze, review, and revise programs to increase operating efficiency.
9. Monitor computer system performance to achieve maximum utilization of system software and hardware.
10. Research and review trade journals and information sources for current developments in computer software and equipment.
11. Assist in the training of other Information Technology employees as assigned by the Supervisor.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.

13. Maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information received in the performance of the job duties.
14. Perform duties in a professional manner through daily, punctual attendance at location of work assignment.
15. Follow Windham School District policies and procedures in completing assigned job duties.
16. Execute duties in a professional, ethical and responsible manner as defined in 19 TAC Chapter 247, Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
