Job Title Software Applications Developer II (CARC) Agency Prairie View A&M University Department Cooperative Agriculture And Research Center Proposed Minimum Salary Commensurate Job Type Staff Job Description The Software Applications Developer II position is responsible for assisting the Cooperative Agricultural Research Center (CARC) scientists with skills that they will be able to focus on running models, analyzing data, and writing manuscripts. The software programming skills of this position are needed for the researchers to help process extensive research data sets, hydrology, soils, greenhouse other natural resources, and farm operations. There is a need for computing skills to streamline data integration throughout the research operations. This position will also responsible for developing new web applications, smart-devices apps, and updating existing software applications.
This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.
The salary is determined in accordance with the University's compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates' education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.
Responsibilities:
* Implement, administer, maintain and monitor user dashboard, data collection structures, reporting formats, data access tools, and data integrity measures for core research data.
* Require data mining knowledge to create, perform and manage routine data operations in bulk (replication, distribution, import, export, reporting, warehousing, purging, and archival, etc.).
* Implement and manage applications on servers and clients, software utilities, data channels, device drivers, user profiles and preferences, menus, software setups, fonts, templates, forms, etc.
* Track usage, performance, integrity, security, and incidents of critical applications for the purpose of making improvement and planning changes, and for the purpose of licensing compliance and budgeting.
* Address long-term and strategic data issues such as coding schemes, data mapping, data structures, archival data formats, data integration and migration, data mining and analysis, coordination of data interactions on multiple platforms, and user training.
* Assists and customize farm and research enterprise resource management software.
* Develop a mobile interface for database applications for IOS and Android.
* Help organize college-wide web content and navigation to maximize functionality.
* Use responsive web design to ensure usability whether on a PC, tablet, mobile phone, or other devices.
* Provide a feature-rich, dynamic user experience.
* Work with graphic designers and communication resources to develop highly useable and attractive sites.
* Provide consistency in overall layout and look-and-feel.
* Assist in alignment with the university's brand and visual identity guidelines.
* Ensure compliance with state and university guidelines for accessibility, usability, confidentiality, and security.
* Perform updates and enhancements to the CAHS website to maintain security, functionality, usefulness, and appeal.
* Take a site to the next level by adding a database for dynamic content and functionality.
* Automate all data collection and survey forms.
* Coordinate with IIC and CITE to ensure content and technological platform currency.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in an applicable field.
* Three years of related experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of advanced analysis, troubleshooting, problem-solving, client relations skills, requirement assessment and analysis, project management methodology, and proficiency of the Information Technology Interface Library (ITIL).
* Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
* Five to seven years of experience in database application development, web applications, data mining, developing, implementing and maintaining data, reporting systems to include experience in data extraction, verification, and analysis using PL/SQL.
* Experience with Dot Net (or similar language), SQL Server (or similar), JavaScript, AJAX, JQuery, XML, HTML, CSS, SCSS, My SQL, PHP, Apache server (open source), SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT), AWS.
* Experience with debugging web including Chrome/Android and mobile Safari.
* Knowledge of advanced analysis, troubleshooting, problem-solving, client relations skills, requirement assessment and analysis, project management methodology, and proficiency of the Information Technology Interface Library (ITIL).
Preferred Licensing / Professional Certification:
* Amazon Web Services (AWS)
