Housed in Northern Illinois University's Division of Outreach, Engagement and Regional Development ( OERD ), CELFE works in collaboration with academic, data and research partners across the NIU system through the Research and Data Collaborative ( RDC ). CELFE began its work focused primarily on Illinois' ECEC system, in which our Director, Theresa Hawley, Ph.D. has spent almost 30 years in as a researcher, advocate, and government systems change leader - working to improve ECEC polices with children and families at the center. Now, CELFE is building on that experience and the passion for systems-change held by the diverse and skilled team of five (and growing) to focus more deeply on the funding adequacy and equity of the ECEC system. The scope and reach of CELFE is expanding to include all states and municipalities interested in transformation. CELFE is currently engaged in projects with Massachusetts and Colorado and Illinois. Screen patients who present themselves for phlebotomy services to determine the need for any special instructions. Via computer, verify billing information availability, enter patient demographic data and test requests. Assess work flow and maintain adequate staffing to perform the necessary phlebotomies as needed. Duties & Responsibilities: * Make decisions as to the completeness of specimens/specimen requests. * Perform manual computer procedures for test requesting, cancelling or crediting tests ordered and verifying billing information. * Prioritize and organize work. * Perform Phlebotomy on patients of all age * Greet patients, screen preparedness for tests requested, i.e., fasting, special diet. If patient is adequately prepared, instruct patient to wait to be called. * If patient is not prepared, give appropriate instructions and make return appointment. * Answer phones for inquiries of results. Recall data via LIS and report by phone. Trace results not yet posted. Refer problems to Supervisor. * Process patient specimens for delivery to the laboratory. * Assess work flow and arrange with other supervisors temporary assistance in phlebotomy, as needed * Assist other staff in monitoring expendable supplies. Stock drawing areas and order supplies in Supervisors' absence, as needed * Occasionally transport patients to clinic areas * Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Required: * High school diploma or equivalent. * One (1) year (12 months) of work experience as a phlebotomist within the last five years.
