University of Indianapolis company history timeline

1902

The story of the University of Indianapolis, which was founded in 1902, is closely tied to its surrounding University Heights neighborhood.

1905

Though all 446 parcels had not been sold, Indiana Central University opened its doors in 1905 when the first building, now called Good Hall, was completed.

1914

1914: Long Hospital opens and the Indiana University Training School for Nurses is founded

1916

1916: First extension office for Indiana University opens in Indianapolis

1917

1917: First commencement is held for nursing.

1928

1928: The Ball Residence for Nurses, now known as Ball Residence Hall, opens its doors

1947

The North Central Association of Schools and Colleges accredited the university in March of 1947.

1959

1959: The Division of Allied Health Sciences is established within the School of Medicine

1968

Since 1968, when the Evangelical United Brethren and Methodist churches merged, it has been affiliated with the United Methodist Church.

1971

1971: Undergraduate campus, consisting of Cavanaugh Hall, Lecture Hall, and University Library opens

1973

1973: Glenn W. Irwin, Jr., M.D. is named second chancellor of IUPUI

1986

1986: Gerald L. Bepko, Ph.D., is named third chancellor of IUPUI

1999

1999: IU Cancer Center receives national cancer center research designation

2004

2004: Informatics & Communications Technology Complex is dedicated

2012

2012: The Lilly Family School of Philanthropy—the first such school in the world—is established

2015

2015: Nasser H. Paydar, Ph.D., is named fifth chancellor of IUPUI
