Scheduled hours can be determined with individual candidates with the opportunity to be achieved in shifts ranging from 8-12 hours to mutually meet candidate and department needs. All hours will be between 6:30 AM and 7:00PM, Monday through Friday. There are no holiday or on-call requirements to this position. NurseClinicians in this role are offered several educational opportunities to learn and grow within the field of cardiac electrophysiology.
While the primary location for this position is at our main campus clinic located in the hospital, there is opportunity for staff to work at our offsite location at HSSB in North Liberty up to several days a week as clinic volumes allow once fully oriented.

Position Responsibilities
* Responsible for patient care in the clinic setting including assessment of vital signs, ensuring current medications and allergies are charted, and management of wound dressings.
* Provide in depth pre-op education and post-op follow up to patients undergoing procedures.
* Perform triage of patient calls to manage symptoms appropriately. Facilitate medication refills as needed.
* Collaborate with HVC Device Nurse Specialists to monitor and manage patient arrhythmias remotely.
* Implement nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
* Independently coordinate and facilitate patient care between multiple disciplines within both the confines of UI Health Care and the local communities (including home health agencies, referring physicians and other community support services).
* Autonomously communicate with referring physician and health care facilities in a timely manner.
* Provide cross-coverage to other HVC NurseClinicians as needed.
* Design, implement and revise patient/family health education activities for patients.
* Assess learning needs of patients and families and provide appropriate education related to diagnosis, procedures, risk factor modification, and treatment regimens.
* Facilitate learning and provide consultation to those in other areas of cardiology and UI Health Care as well as external agencies, communities, and other health care professionals.
* Facilitate educational experiences for health care students and monitors the care delivered.
* Serve as clinical preceptor to new nursing staff as directed by the Nursing Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager or designee.
* Participate in decision-making processes at the unit and department level to manage issues that impact clinical practice.
* Develop and provide leadership for patient care programs within electrophysiology including collaboration with other health care professionals and specialties.
* Participate in the ongoing implementation of current regulatory standards required to meet state and national agency accreditation.
* Use relevant nursing research to improve clinical practice and investigate nursing care problems related to the unit and department.
* Participate in the development and implementation of division/unit quality assessment and improvement programs.

The unit is a dynamic and fast-paced environment, rich with opportunities for both the new graduate nurse and the experienced nurse looking for new challenges. Specialized, comprehensive care is provided to adult patients with leukemia and patients undergoing transplant for multiple myeloma, leukemia, lymphoma, and other types of hematologic disorders. Caring for these patients is a holistic and dynamic process that is both challenging and stimulating. Essential to the care of these inspiring patients is our interdisciplinary team that is skilled in oncology care.
