The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant (RA) to join the laboratory of Dr. Stanley Perlman. The RA will contribute to ongoing research projects in a dynamic, collaborative environment focused on coronavirus-host interactions. The laboratory addresses interdisciplinary questions at the interface of virology, immunology, and neuroscience, using both in vitro and in vivo experimental approaches. This position offers extensive hands-on experience with modern laboratory techniques, data analysis, and experimental design, and provides the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to basic and translational biomedical research. Responsibilities include caring for and managing animal colonies, performing cell culture work, and executing experimental procedures under guidance. The RA will receive individualized mentorship, including advice on experimental design, data analysis, and career development. The role is well-suited for individuals who are intellectually curious, detail-oriented, and motivated to engage in scientific discovery.
Duties to Include:
* Maintain and manage mouse colonies, including routine care, health monitoring, and coordination with experimental needs, in compliance with approved animal care and use protocols.
* Contribute to active research projects by performing experiments using protocols developed by senior research staff or the principal investigator. Read and review articles as directed. As skills and experience grow, critically evaluate published studies and contribute to hypothesis development and experimental planning in collaboration with other researchers and the principal investigator.
* Conduct in vivo infectious disease research using mouse models infected with pathogenic human and murine coronaviruses.
* Organize and plan daily laboratory activities to ensure efficient preparation and execution of research procedures.
* Perform experimental procedures in BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratory environments, ensuring adherence to biosafety and regulatory requirements.
* Participate in mouse necropsies and tissue dissections following approved protocols.
* Perform basic virological and immunological experiments, including virus growth curves, plaque assays and ELISAs.
* Carry out routine cell culture and related laboratory techniques.
* Prepare chemical solutions, buffers, and media according to established protocols, including proper handling, labeling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and solvents.
* As skills and experience develop, assist with troubleshooting, propose modifications or optimizations to protocols, perform more complex techniques, evaluate existing procedures and contribute to methods for monitoring data integrity.
* Collect, record, consolidate, and organize experimental data as directed by the Principal Investigator.
* Maintain accurate laboratory records, databases, and documentation (e.g., reagents, microbial strains and stocks, animals, equipment, and supplies).
* Track progress of research activities in a laboratory notebook.
* Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment, including timely ordering, receiving, and proper storage.
* Assist with documentation to ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and institutional requirements, including required training and certifications.
* Assist with occasional shipping of research reagents.
* Assist in maintaining general laboratory functionality and a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
* Assist in the preparation, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory and facility equipment.

Required Qualifications:
* A Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry or Biology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
* Minimum of 6 months total experience in laboratory research.
* Minimally familiar with, but ideally experience with molecular biology techniques such as cell culture, safe handling of pathogens, PCR, gel electrophoresis, plaque assays, flow cytometry, IHC and other microbiological/immunological methods) PCR, restriction digest, DNA ligation, bacterial transformation.
* Previous experience handling animals.

Summer 2026 Internship Opportunity
The Greenhouse & Research Internship at Mt. Cuba Center offers an exceptional opportunity to gain experience in native plant propagation and research. The intern will participate in all aspects of greenhouse operation and plant propagation to assist in the production of plants in our indoor and outdoor growing facilities. Throughout the summer season, the intern will be exposed to the over 300 accessions of herbaceous and woody native plants produced per year for use in our gardens and research programs. The intern will also support Mt. Cuba Center's Trial Garden, where they will help to assess the horticultural and ecological value of the various species and cultivars that are under evaluation. The intern will participate in routine observation and rating of species, record keeping of pollinator activity, and learn the fundamentals of trial garden maintenance.
Essential Functions of the Role
This dynamic position provides experience in horticultural research across stages of plant growth from seed to mature plants. The intern will work closely with both the Greenhouse and Trial Garden teams while developing essential skills and knowledge.
Primary Responsibilities Include
Greenhouse Operations:
Assist with production tasks such as watering, fertilizing, potting, spacing, moving, pruning, and staking
Perform propagation functions such as seed collection and cleaning, sowing, and transplanting

A Research Intern position is available in Dr. Ronald DePinho laboratory in the Department of Cancer Biology. Our research program focuses on understanding how chromosomal instability (CIN) shapes tumor-immune interactions in colorectal cancer. Using a combination of patient-derived models, genetically engineered mouse models, and molecular and cellular assays, the lab investigates how genomic instability influences tumor progression and immune modulation, with the goal of identifying novel translational vulnerabilities. The research intern will gain hands-on experience in fundamental and advanced experimental techniques commonly used in cancer biology and tumor immunology. The intern will also be exposed to in vitro immunology assays and mouse-based experimental workflows, as well as best practices in experimental design, data analysis, and documentation within a translational cancer research environment. The role will also involve supporting mouse-based experiments, including tissue processing and sample collection.
All duties and responsibilities are carried out in compliance with institutional policies, ethical research standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Learning objectives include developing proficiency in the establishment, maintenance, freezing, and recovery of tumor organoid cultures; nucleic acid extraction and quantitative PCR; genotyping of mouse and organoid samples; protein analysis techniques including western blotting; and basic molecular biology methods. In addition, the intern will be expected to maintain accurate experimental records, contribute to data analysis and interpretation, and actively participate in lab meetings and collaborative discussions related to ongoing projects.

A Research Intern position is available Dr. James Welsh's laboratory in the Department of Thoracic Radiation Oncology. Trainees accepted in Radiation Oncology will learn about and participate in radiation oncology research under the mentorship of a radiation oncology faculty mentor. Research experience encompasses, but is not limited to, literature reviews, data reviews, chart reviews, data extraction, data mining, writing project methodologies, participating in the writing of scientific literature, data cleaning, data analysis, and presenting research and data findings. Students will also participate in radiation oncology-specific and institution-wide research programming through workshops and learning sessions. They will present their findings in the form of an elevator speech or scientific poster at various research symposia during their term in the program.
All duties and responsibilities are carried out in compliance with institutional policies, ethical research standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The Research Intern will be trained in the Welsh lab to help with day-to-day experiments revolving around combining immunotherapy agents with radiotherapy. In vitro experiments will include sterile tissue culturing and splitting of cancer cells, as well as flow cytometric analysis of immune cells. The in vivo experiments will include handling mice, measuring tumors, and delivering radiation. The Research Intern will also augment with data analysis and the preparation of scientific reports and manuscript drafts.

We are seeking a Research Intern to support ongoing projects involving large-scale DNA and RNA sequencing, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, and other molecular profiling data. Under close mentorship from the PI and lab members, the intern will assist with data processing, exploratory analysis, and pipeline development using Python/R and standard bioinformatics tools on Linux/HPC environments. This position is designed as a hands-on training opportunity in modern computational genomics within a highly collaborative cancer research team.
Wenyi Wang Lab in the Department of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology at MD Anderson Cancer Center develops and applies advanced computational and statistical methods to analyze high-dimensional genomic and multi-omics data, with a focus on cancer genomics and tumor evolution.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
During this internship, the trainee will:
* Gain hands-on experience analyzing real DNA/RNA, single-cell, or spatial transcriptomics data using Python/R in

summarization.
* Develop reproducible research skills, including using scripts and version control to organize analyses.

The Research Development Associate will be responsible for implementing a large weekly survey to US Veterans as part of a groundbreaking research project. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to knowledge on the Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID ( PASC ), also called Long COVID . The weekly surveys will provide self-report information from Veterans on how Long COVID symptoms change over time, what types of medical treatments and self-care they are receiving, and how they are coping with this multi-symptom illness. This is a part-time position in the Division of Epidemiology, Department of Internal Medicine, at the University of Utah School of Medicine. This position will support a study at the Salt Lake City Veterans Affairs Healthcare System. The Research Associate will report to Sara J Knight, PhD, Study Multiple Principal Investigator. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience. In this role, the Research Development Associate will work closely with one of the project Multiple Principal Investigators responsible for the survey and interview studies.
