The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is seeking a patient centered 100% Float Staff Nurse to work within our growing clinic locations. Our teams specialize in the care of everyone in the family, in every generation, from birth, for life. This position offers 8-to-10-hour shifts with paid drive time!
This position will support a wide variety of patient specialties including but not limited to: Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Walk-ins, and/or Specialty/Outreach Clinics.
Our Family Medicine staff can see everyone in the family, in every generation, from birth, for life. And when anyone in the family needs specialty care, our family medicine provider connects our patients with the UI Health Care specialist needed. If a patient needs specialty care, our family medicine provider connects them with the UI Health Care specialist for their needs. UI Health Care specialists will consult the same medical record used by our family medicine provider so our patients specialty care is streamlined. This position will support the clinic in providing phone triage support, helping with prior authorizations, as well as assist with nurse visits.
Our Pediatric Clinics specialize in the care of infants, children, and adolescents and provide a range of services from well-child care, to basic childhood immunizations and illnesses, to managing complex medical conditions and chronic disorders. University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital team works hand-in-hand with all pediatric specialists at UI Stead Family Children's Hospital and uses one electronic medical record for each patient which ensures constant and timely communication between the patient and the entire medical team. Our Medical Assistants develop relationships and get to know our patients and monitor patient care history and deliver personalized, compassionate care every time to each patient.

**DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION**
UW Medicine Patient Financial Services is a shared services department. UW Medicine includes UW Medical Center (UWMC) one of the nation's premier educational and research institutions and Harborview Medical Center (HMC), the only Level I trauma center in the entire WWAMI/five-state region. Patient Financial Services is responsible for the patient accounting functions for UWMC and HMC, including billing for inpatient and outpatient services provided at the Medical Centers.
**PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ Document all payer communications thoroughly, and communicated payer decisions in a timely manner
+ Review clinical denials and initiate appeals process
+ Conduct medical necessity reviews, based on denial root cause, and prepares any required clinical documentation summaries to accompany appeals
+ Help present appeals arguments to Administrative Law Judge
+ Monitor and follow up on appeals throughout entire process, determine next steps to ensure appeals either result in an overturned denial or have proceeded
+ as far as possible
+ Identify gaps in clinical documentation and work with clinical staff to develop and implement quality improvement and staff education initiatives
+ Assess the quality of charge capture and coding as they relate to clinical denials; assist revenue cycle leadership in improving processes
+ Analyze initial and fatal denial data to identify trends; share findings with revenue cycle leadership to drive process improvements
+ Review payer updates and communicate changes impacting revenue cycle
**REQUIREMENTS**
+ Active licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Washington State
+ Bachelor's degree in Nursing
+ Certification in at least one of the following: certified healthcare chart auditor, certified professional in utilization review (or utilization management or healthcare management), certified case manager, certified documentation specialist, certified coder, certified professional medical auditor
+ Previous experience working as an RN
+ Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-PCS, ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS coding principles and guidelines
+ Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state regulations related to documentation, coding and billing
+ At least three years of experience required in one of the following areas: clinical, case management, denials, billing

Our Pediatric Clinics specialize in the care of infants, children, and adolescents and provide a range of services from well-child care, to basic childhood immunizations and illnesses, to managing complex medical conditions and chronic disorders. University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital team works hand-in-hand with all pediatric specialists at UI Stead Family Children's Hospital and uses one electronic medical record for each patient which ensures constant and timely communication between the patient and the entire medical team. Position Summary:
Provide direct nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic adult cardiac catheterization procedures. Ensure open and effective channels of communication with patients, family/caregivers and all health care team members involved in the pre/intra/post-care of adult cardiac catheterization patients. Procedures include (but are not limited to): angioplasty, coronary stents, balloon valvuloplasty, Swan Ganz/right heart catheterization, structural heart, and pericardiocentesis.
Position Responsibilities:
* Provide pre/intra/post procedure nursing care (assessment, monitoring, intervention and education) related to diagnostic and therapeutic adult cardiac electrophysiology procedures including (but not limited to) electrophysiologic studies and arrhythmic ablation. Implantation of cardiac rhythm management and AICD (automated implantable cardiac defibrillator) devices.
* Transport patient to/from pre-post recovery and/or inpatient unit.
* Administer intravenous and oral medications to patients.
* Manage patients under procedural sedation.
* Operate physiologic recorder and printer to monitor electrocardiogram and hemodynamic data. Troubleshoot equipment issues and/or initiate repair.
* Operate intra-aortic balloon. Troubleshoot equipment issues and/or initiate repair.
* Operate Impella. Troubleshoot equipment issues and/or initiate repair
* Actively monitor patient during adult electrophysiology procedures (vitals, etc). Participate in life-saving measures such as defibrillation and cardiopulmonary resuscitation as needed.
* Ensure adequate levels of all supplies are available in all procedural room(s). Stock as needed.
* Demonstrate competency in the following: pericardiocentesis and recognition of cardiac rhythms.
* Apply nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of patient responses to health, illness, and procedure.
* Positively collaborate and coordinate the continuum of care within a multi-disciplinary team and across divisions/units.
* Perform patient care according to patient priority (includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses), and departmental, divisional, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Document/report interventions and patient/family response. Follows universal precautions.
* Precept new staff at the direction of Nursing Manager.
* Follow policies and procedures in accordance with regulations set forth by the University of Iowa Healthcare Medical Center Downtown and the Department of Nursing.
