University of Maine at Augusta company history timeline

1965

The University of Maine at Augusta was established in 1965 by an act of the 102nd Maine Legislature as a continuing education division of the University of Maine.

1967

In September, 1967, it was approved as a campus of the University of Maine and began offering day and evening classes.

1975

In 1975, UMA offered its first baccalaureate degree program and began building an integrated faculty community, with appropriate terminal degrees, to teach both baccalaureate and associate degree courses.

1986

In 1986, UMA developed a statewide interactive television system (ITV) as well as a network of over 100 off-campus centers and regional sites, and coordinated the delivery of university programs, courses, and services at these centers and sites.

1989

What was created in 1989 was the first statewide comprehensive distance-learning network in the United States.

1991

1994

In 1994 this system, called Education Network of Maine, became an independent administrative entity of the University of Maine System and was renamed University College.

1998

Prior to 1998 UMA offered only 3 baccalaureate programs; it currently has a total of 18 baccalaureate degrees.
