The Medical Director provides clinical care, leadership and expertise within the palliative care services team to enhance quality of life for patients with life limiting conditions and support for their families and caregivers. Ensures quality of services and appropriate utilization for patients in emergency department, inpatient and outpatient settings. Promotes strategic growth and integration of palliative services throughout the continuum of care.
Qualifications
Education & Training: Active privileges on the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health medical staff. Board-certification in Internal Medicine or in one of its sub-specialties. Eligible and/or certified by the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine is preferred; a willingness to obtain certification within three years is required.
Work Orientation & Experience: 2 years in Palliative or Hospice Care preferred

General Summary
This position is a Master's prepared advanced practice nurse (APN) that provides anesthetic care in collaboration with anesthesiologists, surgeons, physicians, and medical professionals in every practice setting throughout UM Rehab & Ortho. This position performs CRNA functions and practice parameters as detailed by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
The CRNA will administer anesthesia and anesthesia-related care in four general categories: 1) pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation, 2) anesthesia induction, maintenance and emergence, 3) post-anesthesia care, and 4) peri-anesthetic and clinical support functions.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

Transports critically ill patients to the OR, ICU or testing area when appropriate.
Discharges patients from a post-anesthesia care area, and provides post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care.
Orders, initiates or modifies pain relief therapy through the utilization of drugs, regional anesthetic techniques, or other accepted pain relief modalities, including labor epidural analgesia.
Responds to emergency situations by providing airway management, administration of emergency fluids and drugs, and using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques.
Participates in the clinical and didactic education of trainees from multiple disciplines.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and graduation with a Master's degree from an accredited school of nurse anesthesia.
Must hold current licensure from the Maryland State Board of Nurse Examiners to practice nursing and nurse anesthesia.
Hold current certification or recertification from the National Board on Certification & Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).

Job Responsibilities
The Financial Clearance Shared Services Center performs the financial clearance function for outpatient procedures/surgeries, inpatient admissions, and clinical trials at multiple Johns Hopkins Medicine entities, including The Johns Hopkins Hospital, The Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center, The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Bayview Medical Center, Sibley Memorial Hospital, Suburban Hospital, Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, and a number of outpatient satellite clinics. Critical to the success of this position, the Financial Clearance Director, Revenue Cycle Management is responsible for all aspects of the Financial Clearance Shared Services operations to include but not limited to:
Establishing programs, protocols, policies and procedures to support the financial clearance process and working with all entities to standardize processes.
Developing and analyzing reports to assist management to enhance revenue cycle performance and maximize operational efficiencies.
Implementing strategies designed to improve the effectiveness of the financial clearance process through increased automation and controls.
Responsible for regulatory and compliance activities associated with the financial clearance process and ensuring compliance with Revenue Cycle Management policies and procedures.
The incumbent must also possess the ability to ensure that appropriate communication is maintained across all entities and specialties (administrators, ambulatory clinic managers, physicians, Office of Managed Care, utilization review, Finance directors, third-party payers, and patients) to ensure all information is obtained to secure appropriate insurance authorization and/or payments prior to services being performed. This position is responsible for managing the inpatient and outpatient financial clearance component of the Revenue Cycle for multiple entities and, as such, must establish relationships at all facilities and be familiar with each institution's registration/scheduling practices and payer contracts, although they may not be under the direct control of the incumbent. In addition, knowledge of managed care and regulations impacting patient accounting, as well as the ability to integrate activities under his or her direct control with the overall Revenue Cycle Management function, are essential elements of this function.
Qualifications
Requires Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field. A Master's Degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, or Information Management is preferred.
CRCE/CMPA/CHFP certification preferred, leadership role in industry organizations such as HFMA, AAHAM, or MHA strongly encouraged.
A minimum of ten (10) years of hospital receivables/operations management experience within a large academic medical center or health system, with at least six (6) of those years in a management capacity.
Prior work experience must include revenue cycle management projects and/or responsibilities, and a significant role in a redesign project and/or management experience working in a highly automated, centralized business office environment.
Salary Range
$160,000 to $205,000 per year. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. Job Description
Under general supervision, oversees and coordinates quality reporting and outcomes management of acute and chronic inpatient rehabilitation patients. Responsible for coordinating departmental quality improvement activities to ensure consistency with organization policies, procedures and philosophy, and to maintain and improve the quality of care given to the patient. Develops, implements, and documents activities relating to the Quality Assurance Program. Collects, and analyzes data, conducts presentations, provides consultation, and staffs hospital-wide committees.
Primary Responsibilities

Plans, organizes, and directs departmental quality improvement activities. Conducts departmental studies of identified problem areas in accordance with the Quality and Performance Improvement Plan.
Provides staff support to quality management committees by assembling data for review. Handles correspondence to/from committees by writing letters/memos to the appropriate person, department or committee informing them of the recommendation or actions to be taken. Receives correspondence from departments or committees and shares information with the Committee/department quality management physician.
Reviews data related to clinical care, in conjunction with the quality management committee, to determine committee agenda and identify areas requiring further information.
Prepare reports as required for medical staff, quality management committees and quality task forces to identify trends or patterns that present an opportunity to improve the quality of patient care provided.
Shares trends, patterns or issues identified during concurrent reviews, providing explanation and details regarding monthly quality assurance reports, and/or obtains medical records or additional information to be discussed.
Facilitates clinical review and problem-solving processes through the use of quality improvement methodology and tools.
Coordinates special quality improvement projects and studies. Identifies resources needed, persons to be involved and the logistics of accomplishing the project. Participates in State and Federal Quality projects to obtain comparative data on quality indicators, to use in assessing how well the institution is doing in relation to others and compliance with The Joint Commission standards.
Analyzes and assesses the important aspects of care (such as appropriateness of diagnosis, blood transfusions, indication for surgery, clinical pertinence of medical record documentation, complications, anesthesia care, infections, utilization issues, etc.) for specific patient populations which represent important clinical issues and reflect the strategic clinical direction of the organization. Identifies areas for improvement.

Measures and assesses data using pre-determined, medical staff approved criteria to identify cases requiring peer review, identify causes for indicator rate outliers and to document trends or patterns that identify opportunities for improvement in the quality of care provided.
Provides feedback to multidisciplinary teams regarding patient outcomes and processes of care.
Develops effective working relationships with Risk Managers, Case Managers, and Department managers to assure cooperation and data sharing which results in improved patient care.
Provides consultation to ancillary support and clinical departments within the Medical System to establish quality indicators, analyze quality and utilization data, identify trends/patterns and formulate plans for resolving issues/problems.
Staffs organization-wide quality improvement committees and participates on process management teams.
Qualifications
Education & Experience - Required
Bachelor's degree in Nursing or in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Current healthcare licensure in the State of Maryland.
Education & Experience - Preferred

Knowledge about The Joint Commission and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities is required
Knowledge of quality improvement and risk management is required.

The Children's Hospital at UMMC is a comprehensive division within our hospital that offers service to patients across the spectrum of acute care. Our Children's Hospital is comprised of a pediatric ED, pediatric cardiac ICU, pediatric ICU & progressive care unit, a complex labor and delivery unit, a compliment of ambulatory care services, and a 37,00 square foot, 52-bed NICU. UMMC's clinicians offer the critically ill neonatal patients of Maryland ‘Top of the Class' Academic Medicine.
The APP (Advanced Practice Provider) will be involved in providing highly intensive care to the most critically ill babies in the state. Our facility offers a 37,000 square feet Level IV NICU, a specialized transport team, state of the art technologies in our delivery rooms and world class high-risk OB, Neonatology and Subspeciality teams. In addition, we enjoy an interactive relationship with the University of Maryland School of Nursing. The APP Team at UMMC, provides 24/7 coverage for the patients in the NICU. The APP is responsible for daily patient management, leadership, and resource support for the provider team, and is an educational resource for nursing, medical staff and families. Medical plans and decisions are made in collaboration with attending physicians in a manner that utilizes evidence-based interventions and, current best practice, while providing support and education for all team members. The APP and Neonatal fellow are expected to function in tandem with collaborative roles supporting the patients within the division of neonatology. Additionally, the role of the Neonatal APP has expanded to provide coverage for the neonatal transport team through the Maryland Regional Neonatal Transport Program (MRNTP).
In addition to clinical responsibilities, all APPs participate in professional practice activities at varying levels. Schedule accommodations will be made and negotiated as needed.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have completed an accredited Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) program and successfully completed NNP/PA Certification.
NCC (National Certification Corporation) for NNPs is required.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate solid clinical experience, possess excellent communication skills and demonstrate the ability to work with a multidisciplinary team.
Maryland licensure or eligibility is required.
