GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Technical Support Specialist II is a vital member of the UMass Medical School IT Helpdesk and IT Department as a whole. Under the direction of the Manager, IT Helpdesk or designee, the Technical Support Specialist II is responsible for delivering an exceptional customer exeperience for all issues reported to the IT department by the students, faculty and staff of UMass Medical School. The overall responsibility of this position is to triage, troubleshoot and resolve calls from our constituents and guide their requests through to completion. The position is very customer service focused and the ideal candidate will posses exceptional interpersonal skills. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: * Field incoming support requests through one of our omni channels of contact. Phone, Self Service,Walk-Ins and Live Chat * Follow standard troubleshooting procedures to properly identify root causes, attempt troubleshooting and escalate as needed * Understand and be able to effectively communicate all IT workflows, processes, and policies to our customers. Resolve a minimum 70% of your tickets and seeing reported issues through to a satisfactory resolution. * Provide a world class customer experience for our constituents and maintain a 95% Net Promoter Score * Develop your professional and technical skills through ongoing training and team led coaching/mentoring. * Communicate with fellow team members effectively to share knowledge across the team. * Lead and participate in projects approved by management that will improve the experience of our customers and colleagues. * Identify software and systems that are non-compliant with UMass Med School IT policies and provide a solution to become compliant. * Occasional weekend and night on-call duties. * Perform other duties as required. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * A passion for Customer Service * High School diploma and degree in progress or equivalent experience in a related field * 2 years of related experience * Possess the skills and foundational knowledge to understand, communicate and enforce our policies on Data Security * Demonstrates exceptional interpersonal skills. * Strong problem-solving skills. * Ability to diagnose and resolve common Windows and MacOS inquiries including Microsoft 365 products. * In depth understanding of computer systems and networks * Adept at working through ambiguous situations. * Skilled at setting priorities and working to target timelines and metrics. * Ability to own the resolution of reported issues through to completion. * Ability to conceptualize and implement new solutions that improve the experience of our technicians and customers. * Excellent listener and communicator; verbal and written. * Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently. * Ability to travel to off-site locations. * Prior experience supporting users in technical capacity a plus, though not required.     We are looking for technically skilled candidates that can identify and troubleshoot hardware and software issues. Taking ownership of issues reported and seeing problems through to resolution. Researching, diagnosing, troubleshooting and identifying solutions to resolve system issues. Following standard procedures for proper escalation of unresolved issues to the appropriate internal teams, helping to maintain system functionality. Need the ability to resolve users problems and provide timely feedback to end users via email, over the phone or in person, support the roll-out of new applications, among other duties. Be willing to help out where needed and talk to users directly, as well as have good written communication. Improve existing programs by evaluating objectives and specifications, reviewing proposed changes and making recommendations. Please note that this not a remote position. Technical Support Responsibilities: Identifying hardware and software solutions. Assessing Issues and multiple was of troubleshooting. Diagnosing and repairing hardware / software errors. Understanding basic network functions. Installing and configuring Windows, Office and applications. Good communication skills to understand user problems quickly. Proficient with helpdesk systems - entering and closing support tickets. Technical tools through windows and 3rd party. Replacing or repairing necessary parts. Supporting the roll-out of new applications and computers. Organization skills and technical documentation. Managing multiple tasks/tickets at one time. Testing and evaluating new technologies. Qualifications Technical Support Requirements: Current or prior experience in tech support, desktop support, or a similar role. Technical certificate or working towards certifications in IT Proficiency in Windows OS and Office Applications Experience with remote desktop applications and help desk software. Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Good written and verbal communication.

    Job Goal: The Technology Specialist/ Trainer is responsible for providing instruction, training, and resources in order to facilitate the use of technology in the classroom to increase student use and knowledge about technology. In addition, the Technology Specialist/ Trainer will provide technology - related courses and professional development to district staff as directed by the Director of Technology. Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of an Associate's Degree in Computer Technology or Information Systems supplemented with specialized computer courses and 3 to 5 years of experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities; Valid Massachusetts Driver's License; Demonstrated ability to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
