University of Mauritius company history timeline

1965

The University of Mauritius was officially established by the University of Mauritius Ordinance in December 1965, incorporating the existing School of Agriculture.

1971

In December 1971, when the Parliament established the Mauritius College of the Air (MCA) in order to support students at primary and secondary levels.

1972

On 24 March 1972, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, inaugurated the University of Mauritius.

1985

MCA used a combination of correspondence courses as well as broadcasting of educational video and audio programmes on the national radio and television when the Government of Mauritius decided to review the objectives of the MCA, this resulted in the approval of the new MCA Act in 1985.

2014

After being the only local public university that registered a very high positive growth (88%) in 2014, OU is progressing with renewed energy.

2017

As at 31 December 2017, OU had a total enrolment of 5,741.

2018

2022

The deadline for submission of applications for Postgraduate Programmes has been extended to Thursday 30th June 2022 and payment of application fees should be effected by Monday 4th July 2022
