The Department of Astronomy at the University of Michigan invites applications for our ELT Postdoctoral Prize Fellowship, focused on transformational science with Extremely Large Telescopes (ELTs).
Our department is currently the only U.S. institution participating in the instrumentation program for ESO's groundbreaking 39-meter ELT, through active membership in the HARMONI, METIS, ANDES, and MOSAIC consortia, as well as their Science Working Groups.
This fellowship is intended for junior scientists in all areas of astronomy who aspire to define ambitious research goals for the next decade and develop scientific programs that take full advantage of the unparalleled capabilities of ELTs, including the European ELT, Giant Magellan Telescope, and Thirty Meter Telescope. You will have the opportunity to establish independent research that addresses scientific questions uniquely enabled by 30-meter-class telescopes. While experience with instrumentation is valued, this position emphasizes projects that utilize existing observational facilities and/or theoretical modeling and simulations to help shape the next generation of ground-based astronomy. The Department of Radiology at the University of Michigan is seeking one full-time postdoctoral scholar, for an in-person, 1-year position, with the possibility of extending into a 2nd year contingent scholar's progress. Responsibilities*
The candidate will:
* Benchmark/validate/adapt radiation dosimetry algorithms developed at Michigan and by industry collaborators. Develop code for data analysis.
* Perform patient specific dosimetry calculations and analysis for research projects. Contribute to clinical dosimetry protocols.
* Contribute to novel research projects that are sponsored by NIH and industry. This includes dose escalation trials, pharmacokinetic model development, therapies with alpha emitters, and combination therapy with internal and external beam radiotherapy.
* Present research findings at conferences and prepare manuscripts for publication
* Contribute to experimental measurements in the nuclear medicine clinic for research purposes
* Contribute to developing improved SPECT/CT and PET/CT image segmentation and reconstruction methods including AI-based methods.

The Michigan IRACDA program supports postdoctoral fellows as part of the NIH Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Awards. The proposed four-year program for each trainee scholar involves an initial three years of 75%-time research training coupled with 25%-time teaching at one of two partner institutions: Henry Ford College (HFC) and Wayne County CC District (WCCCD). The first 3 years would be paid for by the K12 grant while the 4th year is paid for by the mentor and is expected to allow the scholars to complete their research projects, carry out some teaching and work towards securing a faculty position. The Population Studies Center at the University of Michigan-Institute for Social Research expects to have up to three full-time fellowship opportunities, starting on or about September 1, 2026. Two of these fellowships would be supported by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and one fellowship would be supported by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) . The laboratory of Roger Cone at the Life Sciences Institute (LSI) is looking for a Research Investigator to oversee a research project focused on the preclinical discovery and development of melanocortin neuropeptides. These studies will require considerable expertise and research experiences in neurobiology and cell culture, including development and culture of differentiated neuronal cell lines, and assays of these lines for neuronal function and activity. You will oversee research performed by students and research technicians, report directly to Dr. Cone and perform your work onsite at the LSI.

The Marsal Family School of Education at the University of Michigan invites applications for a full-time Research Investigator to work on an innovative project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The project, led by PI Jamaal Matthews (University of Michigan) and co-PI Nia Nixon (University of California, Irvine), focuses on developing and deploying Generative AI (GenAI) tools to support secondary mathematics teachers' professional learning through equity-centered coaching. The project abstract is below.
The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing the project's research objectives, which include:
Developing GenAI models to code mathematics instruction based on the seven dimensions of Belonging-Centered Instruction (BCI).
Creating AI models capable of coding video-recorded secondary mathematics instruction for generating a strengths and improvement assessment to guide human-facilitated teacher coaching.
Designing AI-driven learning modules that can suggest culturally relevant and sustaining instructional strategies (as well as point to examples of enactment) for supporting secondary mathematics teachers' professional learning and instructional improvement.
This is a two-year appointment, with the option for a third year renewal, anticipated to start in summer 2025.
The position will be based in the Eileen Lappin Weiser Center for Learning Sciences in the Marsal School of Education at the University of Michigan. The research investigator will report directly to Jamaal Matthews and Nia Nixon; however, in year one they will also spend 30% of their weekly time working with Rebecca Quintana and Christopher Quintana on their “ready to hand” GenAI tools project and 10% of their weekly time for integrated collaborative work with the center.

A Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Education, Learning Analytics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence or related fields.
Demonstrated expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and/or machine learning, with experience training and deploying models.
Strong coding skills and expertise with large language models.
Deep knowledge of at least one programming language, Python, Java, C++
Experience with Machine learning and Deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, JAX)
Experience in prompt techniques, zero-shot prompting, fine-tuning, etc, using LLMs through APIs
Record of independent research resulting in high-quality publications and evidence of growing citation impact.
High-level communication skills and ability to represent data in various ways to communicate findings to diverse audiences.
Sound interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with team members, other colleagues in the Eileen Lappin Weiser Center for the Learning Sciences, and external parties.
