The Department of Emergency Medicine invites highly motivated and skilled Research Specialists to join the dynamic Greineder lab at the North Campus Research Complex (NCRC). The Greineder laboratory is a leader in the pharmacology of post-menopausal osteoporosis and other musculoskeletal disorders, having recently patented and published several novel technologies for bone-targeting of small molecule and biotherapeutics. These approaches enhance bone exposure, reduce off-target toxicity, and increase therapeutic efficacy in rodent models. The work has been funded by the NIAMS and spun out into a company, Skeletalis, Inc., which recently completed a successful round of seed fundraising. Our projects are translational, emphasizing intellectual property creation and clinical application, as well as scholarly output. Our lab is a member of the BioInterfaces Institute and fosters a highly collaborative and innovative research environment with ongoing projects with established laboratories at the NCRC and beyond. We're looking for passionate individuals with experience with rodent surgery who have an interest in drug development, musculoskeletal biology, and women's health disorders.
Responsibilities*
* Experimental Research: Conduct experiments related to bone targeting and therapeutic development using rodent models, particularly focused on post-menopausal osteoporosis and inflammatory joint disease
* Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Partner with trainees and research staff within the Greineder lab, BioInterfaces Institute, and partner labs at the U-M and Mayo Clinic.
* Data Management and Analysis: Collect, organize, and analyze experimental data to ensure precision and reliability; prepare findings for reports, publications, and presentations.
* Protocol Development: Assist in the development and refinement of lab protocols, with a focus on post-menopausal osteoporosis and inflammatory joint disease, facilitating translational research objectives.
* Research Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records and contribute to the preparation of scientific papers, grant proposals, and other necessary documentation.
* Team Collaboration: Engage in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss progress, share insights, and plan future research. Promote a collaborative environment by sharing techniques and expertise.
* Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all research complies with safety and regulatory protocols, including IACUC guidelines.
* Lab Operations Support: Assist in maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies to ensure efficient and safe operation.

Required Qualifications*
* Experience with lab animal research and surgery,
* Some experience with aseptic surgery.

Intermediate level:
* Bachelor's degree in biology, animal science, or a related field with minimum 4 years experience in a laboratory setting.
* 1+ year experience with aseptic surgery.
Associate level:
* Bachelor's degree in biology, animal science, or a related field with minimum 1 year experience in a laboratory setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications*
* Master's or PhD in biology, animal science, or a related discipline with 10+ years of laboratory experience.

Position Summary
The Emergency Services Lab Assistant supports the planning, preparation, maintenance, and safe operation of Emergency Services training labs and scenarios. Working closely with faculty and program leadership, this position ensures that instructional spaces, equipment, and materials are organized, functional, and compliant with safety standards and program objectives. The role contributes directly to high-quality, hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for success in fire service, emergency medical services, and public safety careers.
Primary Responsibilities
1.
Lab Preparation, Maintenance, & Safety
* Prepare, set up, and dismantle training props, materials, and equipment for fire, rescue, and EMS labs.
* Inspect, clean, and maintain tools, apparatus, and facilities to ensure safe and functional operation.
* Test and service oxygen systems, fire-ground props, and other pressurized or specialized training equipment following established safety procedures.
* Maintain inventory, track supplies, and report repair or replacement needs.
* Operate college vehicles and hand or power tools as required for training-site setup and material transport.

Instructional & Program Support
* Provide logistical and technical support to instructors during labs and simulations.
* Orient students to safety procedures and proper equipment use.
* Assist with demonstrations and lab resets between class sessions.
* Support outreach, recruitment, and community-training activities when scheduled.
* Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students to coordinate lab operations and ensure readiness.

Minimum Qualifications
* Education - High School Diploma or equivalent.
* Experience - One (1) year of related experience in emergency services, fire science, or equipment maintenance.

Evening or weekend work may be required for scheduled training activities. Work may occasionally occur outdoors during training exercises or while transporting equipment between sites.
This is a Part-time Classified, 19 hour per week (47.5%) position in the Emergency Services department. Starting compensation is entry level for Group 7 on the 2025-26 Classified Wage Schedule.

The Department of Emergency Medicine Research is searching for a highly motivated technician to manage a genetically diverse mouse colony at NCRC. The focus of the lab is on basic science and translational research focused on cardiac arrest/resuscitation and traumatic brain injury. Duties include but are not limited to:
* Transferring of beer via soft piping and pumps to finishing vessels.
* Using Brewing Operations software for inventory and beer tracking purposes.

* Assist with maintaining Mechatronics labs (400, 400A, 400C, and 402E), lab equipment, servers, and workstations.
* Actively support student success by assisting Mechatronics faculty with labs and classroom support (open lab, equipment operation, technology assistance, etc.)
* Assist in lab maintenance and equipment recommendations or selection of vendors to fix or return failed components.
* Assist in the organization and maintenance of lab inventory and tools (6S practices)
* Perform special projects assigned by the Mechatronics faculty (building, designing, programming, 3D Printing, etc.) support equipment and fixtures for the lab or classroom.
* Provide information related to career exploration at the direction of the Mechatronics faculty.

* Software/programming knowledge including, but not limited to MS-Office, Photoshop, Illustrator, HTML, FTP, etc.
* Willingness to expand knowledge in computer technology and software utilized at University.
