The Work
Design, document, and implement quality backend architectures, services, and tooling that leverage the CosmosSDK / CometBFT technology stack
Develop high-quality, performant, modern, clean and readable code within tight deadlines
Work collaboratively with the engineering, design, and product teams, contributing ideas that add value to our product roadmap and company goals
Own the development and maintenance of the project from ideation to deployment
Must Have
Minimum 7 years experience in designing and implementing quality backend architectures.
Experience contributing to Cosmos SDK, CometBFT, IBC, Ethermint, and other modern consensus algorithms, ZK, base primitives, EVM, and Solidity used today in production.

Complete NOC Watch Stander training: Finish the roughly 2-month training program, including the comprehensive checklist of daily operational activities.
Master the toolkit: Become fully proficient in NOC tools, monitoring systems, and escalation policies (Zabbix, Splunk, Element Messenger, etc.).
Build the knowledge base: Create, update, or improve SOPs, runbooks, or knowledge base articles within Confluence.
Qualifications
Must Haves:
Must possess an Active Secret Security Clearance.
Proven experience in a "help desk," NOC, or IT operations environment.
Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to communicate technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
Fundamental exposure to Linux operating systems, specifically Ubuntu or CentOS.
Availability: Ability to work On-Site with a varied shift schedule (days/evenings) and travel up to 25% of the time. Your schedule will be 4/10-hour days per week.
Nice to Haves:
Hands-on experience with RHEL, CentOS, or Ubuntu.
Experience managing Microsoft Server environments.
Familiarity with VMware, Proxmox, or KVM.

This is a hands-on leadership role for a builder and systems thinker who can push generative AI from experimentation into scalable, production-ready capabilities.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Architect robust, modular LLM pipelines including prompt engineering, embeddings, vector search, fine-tuning, and orchestration.
Design and implement autonomous agents capable of reasoning, tool use (e.g., APIs, plugins), and long-horizon task planning.
Own the full lifecycle of AI systems from prototyping through deployment, observability, and optimization.
Evaluate and integrate emerging frameworks (e.g., LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel) to build next-gen agentic capabilities.
Ensure performance, safety, and traceability across LLM applications in production environments.
Lead cross-functional collaboration with data science, platform engineering, and product teams to embed AI into core workflows.

Strong software and systemsengineering skills, including experience in designing APIs, distributed systems, and production-grade services.

Job Summary
* This is a full-time, hybrid position. During your 6-month probationary period, you will be required to work on-site for at least 3 days per week at Merit's office location in Ann Arbor, MI. Following, working on-site will be required for a minimum of 2 days per week.

This position reports to the Director of Member Engagement and is responsible for working independently and as an interdisciplinary resource within Merit to respond to customer inquiries, create or identify solutions to meet differentiated solution designs, and identify evolving solution design trends and service delivery options. Merit's Services Lines consist of Network Services, Hosted Infrastructure, Hosted Applications and Community Development and Support.
You will have an important role working in an interdisciplinary fashion to execute initiatives across the organization with Member Engagement, Network Operations/Engineering, Outside Plant, and Product Development on key existing and potential Member organization's needs; supporting strategy and business development, service solutions, and service development.
