About the Job The University of Minnesota invites applications for a 9-month faculty position in Native American Nutrition and Food Systems at the Associate or Full Professor level in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Natural Resource Sciences. The appointment will typically consist of 50% research and 50% teaching, but appointment percentages may vary depending on the qualifications and seniority of the appointee.
This position will be a nine-month, tenured appointment involving research and teaching that supports the mission of the Department of Food Science and Nutrition. The appointee is expected to develop a strong extramurally funded research program that investigates the relationship between diet, lifestyle and health of Native American individuals, urban and/or tribal communities. The research program should be representative of the diversity of tribal communities in Minnesota. Expectations include leadership in organizing nutrition and food-related scholarly and community events, such as the Native American Nutrition Conference. The appointee is expected to develop and maintain strong and respectful relationships with tribal communities and develop collaborations with other investigators within the Department, the College, and the University, such as the Academic Health Center, the Extension Department for Family, Health and Wellbeing, and the School of Public Health. The appointee will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in nutrition, food systems, and related areas. Advising will include undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. students.

Required
* Earned doctorate in Nutrition, food science, food systems, public health or a related field, with training and experience in community-based participatory research in nutrition, public health, or food systems; demonstrated experience working closely with Native American and/or Alaska Natives on issues related to nutrition, public health, and the food system; strong motivation to build a research program with Minnesota tribal communities; evidence of strong research and administration skills; including demonstrated experience in the management of large research projects, the organization of conferences and scholarly events, fundraising, and the supervision of staff members published research in peer reviewed scholarly journals; strong communication and interpersonal skills; and commitment to diversity and inclusion; tenured or eligible for tenure at Assoc/Full professor rank.

* Post-doctoral research experience related to Native American nutrition and food systems; demonstrated understanding of Native American research and evaluation methods and the importance of culture to these efforts; evidence of ability to acquire extramural funding including experience in grant writing and managing grants; evidence of ability to work independently and in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members; demonstrated leadership of large teams and mentorship of students; and potential for effective classroom teaching of appropriate nutrition, food science and/or food systems courses.

Undergraduate programs include an ACEND-accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) and an IFT-approved food science program. The department hosts an ACEND-accredited Dietetic Internship, the J.J. Warthesen Food Processing Center, the Sensory Center, and the Plant Protein Innovation Center. Job Summary
A unique opportunity exists to help found a new undergraduate nursing program at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, Winona Campus. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Pre-Licensure program is approved by the Minnesota Board of Nursing and accredited by Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The first cohort of freshman nursing students began their studies in Fall 2021 and graduated in May 2025. 100% of graduates passed the NCLEX on their first attempt and are licensed as RN's.
As a member of the founding team, the Nursing Faculty will join the curriculum development already underway. We continue to refine the newly designed nursing courses and clinical rotations for four cohorts of nursing students. The nursing curriculum uses a concept-based approach to teaching and a competency-based approach to assessment. Canvas Online Learning Platform, ATI learning resources, and CAE and Gaumard simulation technology are utilized to enhance student learning. The Nursing Faculty member develops, teaches, monitors, and evaluates courses in the baccalaureate pre-licensure program. Responsibilities may be a mix of classroom, skills lab, simulation, and clinical as suited to the individual faculty member's area of expertise.

The UMN Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) is a tertiary referral service hospital with specialists in most disciplines. Research Opportunities:
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to participate in independent and/or collaborative research that advances basic, translational, and/or clinical medical imaging and its applications. The UMN Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) recently installed a state-of-the-art Siemens Prisma 3T MRI scanner with full research and advanced imaging capabilities. This system allows investigators to leverage the strengths of the UMN Center for Magnetic Resonance Research, one of the top MRI research centers in the world. Our Medical Imaging team includes a faculty MRI research scientist whose Comparative MRI Research Lab provides opportunities for MRI research collaboration and training. The VMC also recently installed a state-of-the-art dual-source Siemens Drive CT scanner. This system will advance collaborative research in cardiology and radiation oncology. Other new, major research equipment in the VMC includes an interventional radiology suite and a Varian Edge linear accelerator. The VMC has also invested in ultrasound equipment with elastography, contrast ultrasound, and image fusion capabilities. These major investments in research infrastructure have been supported by the CVM, Medical School, and the Office for Vice President of Research, with the
goal of advancing comparative research to benefit both animals and people.
Imaging of animals at the VMC and other sites on campus is facilitated by the Clinical Investigation Center (CIC) and Research Animal Resources (RAR). CIC supports preclinical and clinical imaging studies with technical infrastructure, budgeting assistance, and study coordination according to GCP and GLP guidelines. RAR provides support for laboratory animal research, including rodent studies. There are numerous opportunities for cooperative, team science-based research at the UMN outside the CVM, including the Department of Radiology, Department of Neurology, Department of Radiation Oncology, Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Center for Magnetic Resonance Research, and Masonic Cancer Center. About the Job . The University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a dynamic and dedicated professional to serve as a veterinarian in a new Spectrum of Care Clinic, which is slated to open late 2025. The candidate in this position will work closely with clinic leadership and other staff veterinarians to ensure veterinary students receive top-tier clinical education and experiences beginning from day 1. This position will work directly with students in all years of the DVM curriculum to provide mentorship and support while students practice primary case ownership, clinical problem solving, time management, and spectrum of care medicine.
The UMN CVM is dedicated to providing an integrated, competency-focused curriculum that provides students with goal-direct feedback and ensures students are learning in an environment that encourages curiosity, vulnerability, and resilience; emphasizes problem-solving over memorization and accepts failure as part of learning.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Instruction: (80%)
* Contributing to experiential learning by serving as a faculty coach in the Spectrum of Care (SOC) Clinic, supporting student-doctor roles and coaching students, who will have 100% interaction with the clients, in real-time. Coaching responsibilities will be to round with students on their cases, approve student-proposed diagnostic and treatment plans, and teach direct clinical or procedural skills in real time.
* Lead rounds or other targeted training on Spectrum of Care clinical topics such as feline urethral obstruction management, Parvovirus outpatient treatment options, palliative care (specific topics to be determined based on clinical interest).
* Collaborate as needed with other services, departments and clinical skills training to build new opportunities for enhanced hands-on clinical opportunities for students in all 4 years of veterinary medical education.
* Guide students through all steps of primary case management such as client communication, application of clinical or surgical skills, development of diagnostic and treatment plans, time management, and professional skills.
* Be part of the initial clinical team building and provide input on implementation and development of the clinic's curriculum.
Research and/or Didactic (15%):
* Opportunities for contribution to research within the emerging field of Spectrum of Care medicine and effective teaching practices
* Opportunities for didactic teaching in relevant topics
Outreach/service (5%):
Other job responsibilities include personal development, outreach to external stakeholders and service to the CVM and other veterinary-related professional organizations. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
* Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent. The applicant must be eligible for the Minnesota state Veterinary specialty faculty licensure or the standard MN Veterinary Licensure.
* Minimum of 3 years of clinical veterinary practice experience in a primary care, spectrum of care, urgent care, ER receiving, or community practice clinical setting in small animal practice. An internship can count towards this, but is not required.
* Demonstrated ability to provide excellent veterinary service across a spectrum of different levels of care into financially viable options for patients and clients.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of fostering collaboration and building relationships.
* Demonstrated ability to problem solve and engage in conflict resolution when necessary to mentor and support students in a clinical educational environment.
* Ability to teach surgical and dentistry skills preferred.
* Ideal candidates will enjoy flexible treatment planning and have comfort working with a broad range of financial and care resources for development of patient plans.
* Comfort in a dynamic team environment and collaboration in developing clinical processes and protocols.
* Ability and openness to coach students of various backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with outpatient surgical services in a spectrum of care setting

What is the Spectrum of Care clinic?
Spectrum of Care is an emerging pedagogy to intentionally teach clinical problem solving, flexible treatment plans and contextualized care. Many seasoned general practitioners already practice this way, but it is a learning gap that has been identified at teaching institutions. The Spectrum of Care Clinic at UMN is a teaching clinic designed to provide clinical year veterinary students primary case responsibility with a broad range of clinical presentations outside the walls of a tertiary referral center.

This individual will start off teaching courses in Ethics & Sustainability and Business Communication. Potential additional courses to be added in the following year are Fundamentals in Management and Strategic Management. A full-time P&A Instructor covers courses accounting for 24 credits annually.
Successful applicants will be able to teach at both the undergraduate (e.g., BA) and graduate (e.g., MBA) student levels. They should also be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching at both levels, preferably through reference to past teaching experience at the University of Minnesota or another university. They need not be active researchers in related areas, but such research interest is welcome. The instructor will join the Center for Learning Innovation (CLI), an innovative, interdisciplinary department. Pay Range: This role is dually employed by the University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota Physicians. Salary at the University of Minnesota is dependent upon academic effort of the person hired, and begins at $55,000. Clinical salary, aligned with clinical effort, is provided through University of Minnesota Physicians. Total salary is competitive with market and based on AAMC salary benchmarks.
