Pros of working at University of Mississippi

State job gives retirement benefits. That is the only pro. The insurance is surprisingly bad for working at a Hospital.

Cons of working at University of Mississippi

Leadership is more interested in cutting corners and making quick cash than healing the sick. The vice chancellor has been quoted as saying that they have to 'run the hospital like a business, not a charity.'

University of Mississippi benefits

After eight years of working for the state, you are vested in the state retirement program and no longer have to be as frightened of being left to starve when social security can't cover the rising costs of rent... let alone the cost of assisted living. Get a different state job if you can, though.

What do you like best about University of Mississippi's CEO and the leadership team?

They should be retiring soon. They are well into their retirement window, with huge monthly salaries expected to be paid to them for the rest of their lives. They have no care at all about the future of the hospital, its importance to the community, or the people who cannot afford their care.

How would you improve University of Mississippi's culture?

The entire administration needs to be restructured. The positions are currently being held by people with philosophies aligned towards running a large corporation. They are not appropriate to represent and administer a place of learning, research, and healing.

How did you prepare for the University of Mississippi interview?

You prepare for an interview at UMC like you would anywhere else.

How does your compensation at University of Mississippi compare to the industry average?

Compensation is well below industry standards. For the longest time, they were one of the only major employers that offered health insurance. They still list the 'value' of your insurance benefits as part of your salary... and genuinely believe that offering insurance no better than the State Marketplace makes up for their lack of pay.

What's the diversity at University of Mississippi like?

Jackson is an 80% Black community. I would say that diversity is well represented on this campus, but is still not a clear reflection of the demographics of the surrounding city. Take that as you will.

What brings you the most joy at University of Mississippi?

The best part of my day is driving home.
